RUSTIC RHAPSODY
We celebrated the turn of events in our motherland with the free fall of our currency arising from endless corruptions scandals that plague our motherland, leaving relatively nothing for us. Poor as it may be we urge to go back to basic. The very fundamental of construction of brick mortar and concrete. There is really nothing left to be concealed and no money therefore no cosmetic intended. Everything shall remain as truth to materials. Raw and rustic. These are the poem that we chanted through this work. Supposingly as a clubhouse but double utilize as a showroom and mock up as well. You never know what the real intention is for. Designing require flexibility of spaces - open plan. The only natural dilemma for the current generation of the Lost and Frustrate...
THE SITE IN QUESTION
The terrain is taxing. Just a look at the retaining wall will send chills up your spine. This exercise may call for a structure that levitates as we are not allow to even touch the retaining wall. No doubt the largest economy of the world, US is building a wall, this wall provide a platform opening to the vista in front. Yet reaching the proper platform require climbing and walking. These are the 2 very fundamental things that are greatly missing in our unhealthy world. Technically this site needs to be linked. A structure of linking the vertical transportation to the horizontal platform, is but necessary, unfortunately a bloody waste of money as well. No choice, unless we invented the flying carpet per se.
CONCEPT
We dug so hard into our past work and finally fond something usable - the back to basic stuff. Aesthetic of the raw, rough, rugged, rustic and currently into the fashion of our Malaysian architect. Don't believe, just look at the newly minted PAM center at Jln Tanduk Bangsar. It is nothing more then a huge complex built with this un-pretending building materials of Bricks, Mortar and Steel... Ya, we even inserted the Vent block aesthetic as our complimentary design element.
