8 MANSIONS BRIGHT MIRROR 八宅明镜 AT A GLANCE

Picture
Strange but true, most of us think that BaZhai or fondly known as 8 mansions techniques are Kindergarten stuff, these techniques are the most advanced stuff in YangGong method. Gone are the necessities to look at the water mouth with the true BaZhai and when you are able to discern to the correct Gua – you are able to dictate what is mountain and what is water indirectly dictate what your Xue positions is. This is where SanHe and SanYuan break apart and merged as a one and only solution. However, the true technique has been concealed beyond recognition.

Let’s take BaZhai MingJing (BZMJ) for instance. It is one of the most common and most corrupted textbook in this subject taking sources from all sorts of classics available at that time, adding chapters upon chapters by various authors. Some believes that it is a false method first designed by YiXing to pass it on to the barbaric nations of his time such as Japan and Korea only to return to the middle Kingdom to confuse the Chinese notably during the Qing Dynasty where people like Zhang BingLing marketed himself almost similar to those of our modern contemporaries.
What exactly is BaZhai MingJing?

Picture
The Fundamentals
The fundamentals of Li, Qi and Xiang, YinYang & WuXing, JiaZi, Xing and LiQi are the entire fundamental related to SanYuan. What is most interesting is, it discerns YinYang into the universal east and west house. It further discerns the 9 stars through the 8 houses but yet none of the template reflects the original positions of the 9 stars. No one can explain why ShengQi star 1 TangLang takes Zhen Gua wood star instead of SanYuan HeTu Qi water star? TianYi takes JuMen star 2 earth Gen Gua instead of the commonly known SanHe Kun Gua? The sum of all these inconsistencies only point to you that the obvious 8 Houses primary distribution of BaZhai stars are not in compliance to the backbone of Huge SanYuan and SanHe – thus it is never a genuine method to be used stock load and barrel. More importantly there is one passage that will never be included in most English literature on this subject such as Wang KenTang’s postulation on BaZhai auspiciousness and inauspiciousness. It attempts to look at BaZhai as the macro aspect of DaGua – comparing the house Gua with palace / room Gua in a strict SanYuan manner. Yet it did not attempt to explain as to why HeTu Qi combination takes TangLang 1 star as wood Qi instead of water Qi? Here, at least you know that someone from the Qing aristocrat has muddled in this classics that is purportedly written by Yang YongSung? For most of the important aspect, one will easily overlook the Early Heaven sequence in Later Heaven BaGua as the body and implying Early Heaven BaGua with it Later Heaven sequence as its applications. This is all Wang KenTang trying to say…
House Matters
Picture
The opening premise, “the house sitting mountain (Gua) is its FuWei” and the Main Door’s Xue is the priority, Bedroom location is second priority and the Bed’s Xue is the third priority. It implies that Sitting Gua matching Life Gua – is compatible. West Life people must live in west house and East Life people must live in east house. This is the most devious means to break family members apart in the pretext of Good FengShui. Such postulation cannot be true. Both SanHe and SanYuan take house as a container and if the container is able to collect Qi – it is good FengShui in regardless who lives in it. The manner in which it receives Qi is prescribed in the later chapter and the crucial points are the components of 6 matters or necessities must match Life Gua for personal FengShui rather than the overall house FengShui. Strangely, date selections are based on SanHe frames activating the BaZhai stars instead of the complicated DaGua system. It is already suggesting that its fundamental is to match earth Xue with heaven Xue. Discussing Life Gua is shown as a full blown SanYuan YuanKong Purple White arranging JiaZi through the upper, middle and lower period. Mind you, it is always 3 periods not 2 periods although it is strongly rooted on the 8 Guas and not the 11-x for male or 4+x for the female rules of thumbs.

Picture
Gua, Star Relationships
The common mantra Early Heaven as the principle, Later Heaven as the application. In BaZhai the Body is the Earth Plate and the Application is the Heaven Plate relationship. Earth Plate referred to the Later Heaven BaGua and Heaven Plate related to Purple White Star (Heaven Qi). This is not accurate. Earth Plate refers to the SanHe frames while Heaven Plate refers to the SanYuan Qi – this is where the earth Xue meets heaven Xue so to allow you to derive the ONE Gua XieZi. Is it obvious? No way!
House Form and Alternate BaZhai Star Assignments
This is a Form Assessment based on XingSha, Multitier configurations, compartmentalization and Door types. It hinted that Forms take precedents over Formula. It prescribed Secondary and Tertiary methods of BaZhai Stars allocation – Primary (base on House Seating), Secondary (Door Location), Tertiary (Highest Room). Rather strange that in applications there are various method to raised FuWei. Raise FuWei is a method of measuring Xue locations and must it stop at tertiary? This chapter also suggested the uses of “Sky Well” or Court Yard to receive Qi. It also suggests obvious Killing Qi based on House Facing – SanHe BaLu HuangGuan or Eight Roads of Destruction. Rather strange for a SanYuan method conforming a SanHe Killing Qi? What happened to the SanYuan Robbery Sha instead? It goes to show that the 4 fundamental structures are indispensible in SanYuan. Without the Heaven Plate in the SanYuan LuoPan, how do you measure the 4 water mouths?
Cure
Forms cure forms, Qi cures Qi. In this chapter it prescribed how BaZhai Qi such as ShengQi descends on WuGui, TianYi imposes on JueMing, YanNian subduing LiuSha – 3 auspicious subduing 3 Inauspicious. Implied FuWei subdues HuoHai. Qi cures Qi in its elemental relationships. However, it is a mistake if it is taken at face value. The truth is face prosperous sits weakening – something that is so fundamentally crucial in the Direct Spirit and Indirect Spirit principles.
Palace Counter Stars
Palace Counter Stars with Guest (Star) and Host (Palace) relationship. Discerning YinYang of the BaZhai stars one aspect being Auspicious is Yang, Inauspicious is Yin based on Later Heaven BaGua YinYang. These YinYang between star and palaces form the 1s layer of compatibility, elemental counter/producing forms 2nd layer of compatibility and so forth. Layers within layers liked an onion.

Picture
Incoming Path
Discerning YinYang of the 24 mountain Xu-Chen being the YinYang Boundary with Yang (East) and Yin (West). Why it uses Xu-Chen as the YinYang threshold and not Chou and Wei? YuanKong Divination techniques using 6 Yao Hexagram is used to evaluate auspiciousness where the Main Entrance / Stove mouth construct the 1st Yao, from incoming path as 2nd Yao to outgoing path as 3rd Yao, House Facing Gua is the 4th – 6th Yao or the upper trigram. Hexagram’s lower trigram and upper trigram is evaluated between Life Gua and BaZhai Star relationship. This is where BZMJ suggested that if you cannot change the House sitting Gua, change the door facing and if other fails, just move the stove around until you get an auspicious Gua matching. This is called the mystical YangGong Stove method to expedite children and wealth. This is a whole subject by itself. What it is most interesting but not expressly told is that the Location of the Main Door is of paramount important to match the Life Gua yet silence on if it is for the male or the female?

Stove Direction & Room Location
Stars in Palaces
Details on stove mouth facing, room allocation and various construction matters were mentioned in BZMJ. Life Gua – Marriage, children, Illness and Disaster – Life Gua permutation based on JiaZi Year pillar. Uses Life Gua matching BaZhai Stars to predict marriage, children, illness and disaster. Prohibitions – Getting away from inauspicious outcomes.

Stars in Palaces or the 24 stars to examine External Water comprises of 2 parts as the first, being called Shining Water Classics and the second, being called Jade Carriage Classics. Jade Carriage Classics is borrowed from the Yin FengShui placement of HouTu to be applied to Yang FengShui Door placement techniques.

Shining Water Classics
Star and Palace relationship is based on Shining Water Classics. It uses secondary BaZhai Star distribution techniques to analyse relationship between Gua of the Main Door location to the door Gua location of the other rooms. The outcomes affect the related family member – Palace Counter Palace. Portends – ShengQi benefits eldest, TianYi benefits second, YanNian benefits youngest. Same applies to JueMing (eldest male), WuGui (eldest son), HuoHai (middle son), LiuSha (youngest son).

 Jade Carriage Classics
BZMJ did not spell out NaJia BaGua as a method to locate the Main Door and instead it employs Jade Carriage Classics to determine the favourable and non-favourable location for water exit. This must be read in tandem with the SanHe 4 water mouths approach. First, the Jade Carriage prescribed the 24 stars with the fixed order lead by a lead star (Fortune, Epidemic, Wealth, Illness, Lawsuits, Knight, Noble, Hang, Village, Thriving, Execution, Madness, Argument, Silkworm, Farm, Weeping, Lonely, Widow, Glorious, Premature Death, Prostitute, InLaws, Extinction, Prosperous). It did not explain where or how these stars come into the picture. It is a prescribed poem assumedly taken from some distance ShenSha text. If you care to take a close scrutiny it prescribed assigning of the 24 stars to the 24 mountains based on House sitting Gua to determine where the lead star is to reside and these mountains are generally the stables (Yin, Si, Shen and Hai) and Ren, Kun, Ding and Geng. No reason given as to the manner it is orderly assigned to generate the 24 mountain charts that show where to open door, water exit, locate toilet and so forth.

It however doesn’t stop there. By virtue of such door location, it evaluate its effects on water flow based on WuYin (5 sounds), BaGua, BaZhai stars, mountain and facing 8 dragon’s Qi, incoming path, Yao imagery, Year Gua and auspicious stars. It is a matrix that consolidates various applications of other methods into a collective whole without telling you how and why!
To cross it all, it suggests that it must conform to the SanHe water methods – 4 major water mouths uses the 12 growth phases and Later Heaven water method as in the Earth Studies Five Principles. The entire SanHe corpus must be employed to make this Jade Carriage work. Think of it, is the author serious or nuts mixing all techniques into a salad bowl?
Picture
Purple White Stars
Well, it just don’t stop right there. BZMJ suggests that the Purple White Stars – Replacement star method based on the sitting Gua must be employed to make sure that it is feasibly timely. These replacement stars are evaluated against each of the palaces YinYang and elemental relationships within the LoShu to derive auspiciousness and inauspiciousness. In summary, the outcome is an oversized onion with many layers of theories or methods squeezed together to determine the right door!

Eight Mansions In Application
To Move or Not Move

Eight mansions were also known as YiGua FengShui because it uses extensively predetermination of auspiciousness and ill fates based on the BaGua more specifically, the GuaQi. GuaQi may sounds like rocket sciences but truly a simple logic of permutation between early heaven BaGua with the numerology of LoShu. Such basis are shared between other system of FengShui, notably XuanKong DaGua.

Unlike their counterpart which is the famous XuanKong FlyingStar (XKFX)  which is about 100 years old, XKFX is predominantly based on later heaven BaGua intertwined with LoShu. So technically both of these systems do not come together. They cannot gel because both fundamentals are different. Any force fitting will only make them, nice on theory awkward in application.  So, it is not very surprising to hear that there are new theories such as YiJing FlyingStar, YiJing BaGua, QiMen FlyingStar to reinvent the wheel which is deemed unnecessary. The closest attempt is the use of XuanKong LiuFa but it has again fails to determine, could the arrow of time flies backward? On this account, there is no way a frail attempt to say, XKDG is the principle and XKFX is the application, could be justified because, these systems had different fundamentals, to begin with.

Eight mansions had earned its status of notoriety for being simple in application, complicated in justification. Could easily be written off as bullshit FengShui method but until now, no authentic masters are able to do so. There was also claim that EightMansions was invented to con the barbaric neighbors during Tang Dynasty. It was at one time called 'kindergarten' FengShui method but it is utter shameful that such kindergarten status was a foundation for more complicated system liked XKDG to rest on. So by implication, if one fails to apply EightMansion, one also know nuts about XKDG. That is an irony.

There are basically 2 methods of Eight Mansions that are widely known. One uses the Life Gua as the basis while the other, the House Gua. A Life Gua is determined from the year of birth of a person, more accurately its age. Whereas a House Gua is based on the sitting Gua of a house. There are basically two halves, one called west group while the other east group, for ease of discussion.

One attempt is to match the house Gua with its residents's Life Gua. It sounds perfect that a west group life should reside in a west group house. But how often could we get husband and wives are of the same Gua? Being the breadwinner, the husband Gua will take precedent over his wife. As a result the incompatibility of the wife's Gua will result in domestic nightmares. So, it cannot be right!

True enough, it is because of our lack of understanding. Trying to 'fix' it using early and later heaven trigrams association will only make matter worst. The older masters of the FuJian lineage stressed that the correct answers rest in the understanding of the trigram Qian and Kun. Knowing such, Life Gua matching of house Gua is no longer an issue. Similarly husband and wife of different Gua sharing the same bed is also not an issue. That is a reason why a throughout understanding of YiJing is essential.

Infact, the true corpus of Eight Mansions are complete in its original forms with its YinYang and the sort. It also has its own time factor, meaning every building has its life span. Every building's luck undergoes it designated up and down just liked one's BaZi. It has its own method of date selection unlike what is commonly known of the 3 combinations as BaZhai MingJing. The true 'KungFu' is how would one maintain the auspicious luck cycle of the building before it goes downward. Definitely, it does not succumb to taking TangLang as wood Qi.

When opportunity arise, we shall discuss why a formidable SaYuan system liked 8 mansions does not concern how Qi flows.
Picture
Movement and Stillness, these are the two words that are simple yet complicated.

"It begins with movement; hardly can see a thing, when it comes to stillness, all begin to understand. When one sees stillness as the essential marvel, how may one knows that movement is the foundation?"

A competent practitioner would utilize an unfavorable sector to his advantages. A competent BaZi consultant would also use the negative gods. Beginners’ mistake is to equate the use of Eight Mansions with Flying Stars. These are two methods with different fundamentals. Eight Mansions stem from Early Heaven while Flying Stars stem from Later Heaven. Not surprising if someone were to asked, “What if the sector has a JueMing but yet a favorable 8 wealth star?”

Eight Mansions talked about Gua Qi, elemental relationship. Flying Stars talked about GuaXiang, imagery. The Classics state, “The Gua imagery is established on the basis of their meanings; understand the images and forget the words – the idea is clear of itself. The whole world delusively clings to the imagery; uses GuaQi and rise in levitation.” The elusive meaning of GuaQi remains the key, which many teachers refused to depart.

Evaluating internal spaces, GuaQi remains an important factor. What would be the reference for the interior? Such is called the YinYang boundary. It is the point to distribute the stars. The strangest thing is why must the reference be located at the center? Why must the Wedge be placed at the center? Why must one even smack the 9 Grids forcefully into the house plan as though there is a physical boundary between Qi? What if the physical demarcation of architectural walls differs from the 9 Grids? Why must there be even Grid Vs Wedge? Such reflects the lack of understanding in FengShui fundamentals.

The grid and wedge are simultaneously deployed. The wedge referred to the art of LiPan, establishing the LuoPan. The Grid is an aid of accessing Qi maps. While drawing up Qi maps and establishing the LuoPan became the integral part of a competent practitioner, many were not taught the proper way of doing such. To convince one that Qi moves as LoShu would not guarantee one’s application of eight mansions or FlyingStar is correct. The key is not with LoShu, but to understand how Qi spirals in 3 dimensions and work thereof. Such will work perfectly with whatever given architectural plans.

Only then, would the knowledge of stillness and movement work within the misconstrued Direct/Indirect Spirits, another malicious subject. In summary, Internal FengShui is all about the art of identifying internal Qi maps, activating, receiving or transforming  through the various essentials of a Yang Dwelling.

Saying thus, the success rate is still within its external!

Problem With Eight Mansions
Picture
Picture
This method is considered to be the simplest forms of FengShui methodology. So simple that some experts reckoned it to be a flawed method. How could one be possible of dividing people into 2 sectors of East and West house? Made popular by the book called BaZhai MingJing or Eight Mansions Bright Mirror, some claimed to be authored by the monk YiXing while others, to be coming from the grandmaster Yang, it is subject to debate. However, the inevitable question remains, is BaZhai or Eight Mansions a SanHe or a SanYuan method?

If it is a SanYuan method, why is the element annexed to the stars such as ShengQi takes TangLang (wood) instead of 1-6 (water) in accordance to the HeTu? TangLang star form in SanHe is a wood star. So, it must be a SanHe methodology. Such may not be true?

Yet, it is not SanHe per se. Practitioners of XuanKong DaGua (XKDG) understand that Eight Mansions is the macro view of XKDG. DaGua being the Hexagram of the YiGua (not YiJing), consist mainly of lower trigram being the host and upper trigram being the guest. In this case the host remains constant as the sitting Gua of a house. Therefore a house Gua remains valid in the application. Whereas the guests are the transformed Gua (wandering stars) or flipping trigrams. With both Trigrams it forms a Hexagram. This is DaGua when it is annexed to the Gua Qi and Gua Yun, in a macro view. So it must be SanYuan.

To illustrate such, take a Kun sitting house as an example. We cast a natal chart based on the LoShu and sitting of a house, in this case, Kun house. Based on the flipping method we superimposed the Eight Mansions star into the LoShu. Then we superimposed the Eight Mansion star as DaGua into the LoShu. Do you see the consistency as to why there are only 4 favorable stars and 4 unfavorable stars?
Saying thus, it opens up to myriads issues worth investigating. Is our theory wrong or simply our applications going so wrong? One conclusion, Eight Mansion is not as simple as it appears to be.On another note, do you really knows what make a ShengQi really growing Qi and not just name sake? What is the quality of YanNian and the qualifying factors of TianYi and not just those descriptions found on the books available in the market. It is all in the DaGua itself.

Predisposition of 8 Mansions
Predisposition - is a very big Concept with various interpretations. The common synonym would be inclination. Various method in FengShui has various means of predisposition for an individual. For example, in the 8 Mansions, individuals are classified as East and West Life predispositions. An East Life person ideally must live in an East House. Similarly, a West Life person must stay in a West House. Mismatching denotes bad FengShui.

Common ways of profiling such predisposition is as the following example: -

A male born in 1972. Numerically, add up 1+9=10, round up to 1 plus, 7+2=9, giving a grand total of 10, round up again to 1. Take the constant 11-1=10, round up to 1 again. So this person has the predisposition of 1, taking the Gua imagery of Kan.

Have one ever ask, where the hell has this formula comes about?
Why a male  predisposition must be subtracted by 11 while the female predisposition must be added by 4? What is the basis of this predisposition?

Here is the CLUE: -

  1. 8 Mansions has the similar SanYuan roots as its counterpart XuanKong. The basis is within the LoShu of the Greater SanYuan and nothing even closed to ErYuan. A person's predisposition must be determined via the upper, middle or lower Yuan of its year of birth.
  2. A person's gender determines the YinYang cycle of the Greater SanYuan.
  3. Also matching the GuaQi of the reigning period.
  4. Replacing thus, we obtained the Gua number or predisposition of the person.

So, to simplify matters, such a complex calculation has been made into an arithmetical formula. Unfortunately, without realizing such, do we still call 8 Mansions as a SanHe method?
Picture
Even More Story On the Predisposition of 8 Mansions
Luck is always related to the Month branch. The luck predisposition of a person is annexed to the season. Generally 2 types – the Hot predisposition and the Cold predisposition, a complete TaiQi.

These 2 types are further subcategories into its YinYang correlatively brings about the 4 imageries namely: -

1. Minor Hot (after Beginning of spring before Beginning of summer)
2. Major Hot (after Beginning of summer before Beginning of autumn)
3. Minor Cold (after Beginning of autumn before Beginning of winter)
4. Major Cold (after Beginning of winter before Beginning of spring)

Regardless of the Day Master of a person, such luck predispositions are able to give a generalization gauge of luck for a person through the years,.luck cycle, months and seasons. So to speak, a Major Hot predisposition person is likely to be going through a roller coaster in the season of water, HeTu Luck of water and so forth, while benefitted in the season of metal and so forth. Whereas a Minor Hot predisposition person is likely to favor wood and fire seasons while avoiding metal and water seasons.

So, predisposition based on the month is the measurement of Heaven Qi. Compounding with the Life Gua of a person, the reading is more accurate.

This is one simple reason why you need to know BaZi before you can read FengShui.

More Story On the Predisposition of 8 Mansions
8 Mansions predisposition is based on the Year pillar. The stem branch system of the four pillars is a classic example of defined Yang Heaven above Yin Earth below, not entirely the representation of the Early Heaven arrangement.

Taking the postulation that year is the root and the succession hour is the fruit, the year pillar is reflective of the incoming dragon. 8 Mansions predisposition is based on the Year pillar as dragon represents the measurement of Earth Qi – FengShui. By the same token, the 3 cycles or SanYuan is the measurement of Earth Qi. It will be a little strange if we over emphasized that SanYuan measures only Heaven Qi. This is entirely misleading.

Another form of predisposition is based on the Month pillar. The month is the branch reflective of the mountain. If the Year pillar is the Greater Yang, then the Month pillar is the Greater Yin. Mountain is influenced by the cycle and phases of the moon. It measures the temporal Qi of a person. Ever wonder why a person’s luck pillar starts from the month instead of the others? By the same token, if one wants to change a person’s luck, which predisposition one has to account for?

The Root of The Eight Mansions (BaZhai)
Some one told me that The BaZhai that is taught in the market today is not what it is suppose to be. Not many people know that there is the EH part and the LH part. The EH governs the “mountain” aspect and the LH governs “water” aspect. From each type of houses, we determine the LH and EH of the house. From here, we can seek to read and predict the happenings of occupants within the property.

Similarly on a defunct Chinese Metaphysic Website called Element V, it was stated that “. …many are not aware that the BaZhai method should not be used for commercial premises. It is an end-user product for relationships, and meant for application to residential dwellings only. I should add that BaZhai applications are based on the Early Heaven Gua, not the Later Heaven Gua, as commonly taught. And the same system can also be used for predicting and analyzing events.”

A further infusion of such, was a timely essay from HHC entails the trilogy of Door, Bed and the Stove, seizing up the confused aroma of the classical texts that consist of RuDiYen, BaZhai 4 Books, Complete Text of BaZhai, Classic on the Arrival of the Golden Light Star and BaZhaiMingJing, painting the setting, but not dwelling into roots of BaZhai.

So what is the roots of BaZhai?

Analysis Into Zhang BingLing SanHe Methodology
Picture
Investigating FengShui methodology is among others, a tricky exercise, especially when there is more then one method is employed. The pedigree of the master concerned speaks for itself usually from the journal he kept. In this instance, a ZhongHe practitioner Zhang BingLing has been introduced as a SanHe practitioner of whom this is quite misleading. Coming from the Fujian province, a stronghold of SanYuan, my opinion is that he was from a SanYuan pedigree instead. Therefore, it will only be natural to review his record in accordance to consistency and coherency of the idea he put forth and match against the scale of major external to micro internal based on a sampling of Ren sitting case study.

Major external:

The diagram indicates a landform of a Xue sitting Ren facing Bing. It was recorded as Ren in the centre of the Phoenix formation. Bing location is the table mountain in the goldfish formation. The green dragon denotes Tai Yi and white tiger Tian Yi. Shen is the exiting water mouth. Incoming Dragon from Gen. The tiger embrace should be lower to reach auspicious position at terminal, and should be hollow and not full.

Chan BingLing’s rationale:

Water obtains Yang Fire.
Gold Division: Xin Hai (Metal), Xin Si (Metal)
Gold Division: Ding Hai (Earth), Ding Si (Earth)

Poem: Ren Sitting faces towards the Xue. Gen is where the Ancestor Mountains are. Kan position has auspicious star formation same as Gen position. Incoming from Jia exiting at Shen, then generations of descendents will be noble, illustrious and flourishing.

Picture
Criticism:

If one notices, the gold division of choices limited to Ding, Bing, Xin and Geng does not base on the 72 Dragons rings. Therefore, it cannot base on YangGong methodology. If it is sitting Ren between Xin Hai and Ding Hai it will fall into the Emptiness line of the 72 Dragons. Therefore it is never a good choice from a YangGong perspective.

The water structure he employed is Fire frame of Yin Wu Xu, exiting at Shen being sickness. In the YangGong perspective he must choose a Xue which is also fire frame. However Ren sitting is not fire even if it is based on his preferred gold divisions which are either Metal or Earth. So, there is no consistency in terms of the 12 growth water matching the Xue Sitting and how can it be SanHe?

The robbery killing force is a typical 8 killing forces for SanYuan. In the case of sitting Kan, the 8 killing forces are from Chen and Xu, there is where he recommended the stove to be positioned. Kun is the early heaven 8 killing forces he termed as termination. Likewise, such methods are the SanYuan dragon gate 8 formations and not SanHe and definitely not YangGong method. YangGong old method does not recognise 8 killing forces, 8 road of destructions and other similar theory, of which were claimed to be re-engineered for the consumption of the Manchurians.

Analysis Into Zhang BingLing SanHe Methodology 2
Picture
Immediate External Water Method:

Ren Sitting, Bing Facing.
Water Placement (well) at Yin
Gold Division: Xin Hai, Xin Si
Gold Division: Ding Hai, Ding Si
Water direction: Right to Left, Ding – Bing – Xun (Exit)

Poem:

Yang Dwelling water mouth receiving at Ding, motion produce Authority at Imperial Stables. When the Master uses this formation, wealth and glory would be everlasting.

Criticism:

There is no sign of 12 growth stages included in the woodblock. Assuming this was the techniques, the objective is to obtain Officer, wealth and nobility, sitting Metal frame, Ding receiving Youth water, Bing activating Officer water and exits at Xun which is Prosperity, which is forbidden. Assuming it is a Earth Xue, receiving weakening water, activating sickness water and exiting at death. Possible, but not encourage able, as incoming could have been from prosperity. So, there is no consistency between the methods applied in the major external with the immediate external.

Alternatively, if we look at Earthly Principles Five Verses, exiting at Xun and Si are major 8 road of destruction, crash into officer palace, kills and making the owner to be a bankrupt, almost opposite from the intention of the poem.

Well location at Yin possible of activating the Sky Horse formation and in this case expediting inauspiciousness? A very possible choice, assuming it is in an auspicious formation. Therefore, how SanHe could it possibly be?

Picture
The Chinese Metaphysics are really fascinated with the sky 天. It is also known as Heavenly Bodies – planets, stars, sun and so forth. So, how do we look at it in FengShui?

There is a saying: -
 一等地师观星斗,二等地师寻水口,三等地师满山走!
Translated as: First Class master observing the stars and asterism, second class master observing the water mouth and the third class master runs around the mountain (implying not seeing anything).

So, in order to be the first class master, you are supposed to be able to observe the star and to apply your FengShui cure without even the need to go to the site! Is it possible? Within this phrase it is hidden the secret of XieZi 些子. Apparently when SanHe and SanYuan meet it is where XieZi 些子 is, right?

There are nine layers of Heaven 九层天. How the 9 layers of Heaven does comes about? Has it also got to do with the mysterious lady of the nine heaven 九天玄女? There is a metaphysical aspect and a physical aspect of Heaven. In FengShui, we study the physical aspect or better known as the 9 spheres of Heaven - the fixed star + 7 governors + Earth = 9 spheres of Heaven. It is also from here, the notion of three heavens 三天 are derived – Early Heaven 先天, Later Heaven 后天 and Middle Heaven 中天.

Green Satchel Classics (Middle Scroll) - HuangShi Gong States: Heaven has 5 stars, earth has 5 elements. Heaven is constituting asterism, earth arrange mountain and plains. Qi moves as earth, forms suspend as Heaven. Use form to examine Qi, to forecast human affairs. ZiWei, heavenly pole. TaiYi is governing. The ruler 君临 rules 4 corners or cardinals. South facing thus govern. TianShi in eastern palace, ShaoWei western side. TaiWei southern wall, 4 and 7 as longtitude (classics). 5 virtues as latitude. Fortune (period luck) QianKun carriage. Shining brightly Qian granted. 7 governors pivot working, circulate with completion and commencement. Earthly virtue upward conveys, Heavenly light downward preside. Yin use Yang faces. Yang use Yin respond. YinYang mutually meet, fortune prosperity ever pure. YinYang together harness, misfortune disaster follows together. Heaven that which presides, earth that which contains. Form retains, Qi gathers – ten thousand things are born. Qi moves and responds spirits blessings touch people. Heaven has image, earth has form. Up down mutual rules and complete one body – this speak of change.
Early Heaven 先天

Early Heaven 先天 is referring to the “fixed” star. It is fixed as a reference point or palaces 宫. When it is visited by the 7 “planets” it is called path 道 such as yellow path 黄道, white path 白道 and red path 红道. These fixed stars are also known as the 28 asterism 二十八宿. In this cluster of the 28 asterism, it is known as the 4 enclosures 四垣 namely Black Warrior 玄武 – North, Red Phoenix 朱雀 – South, Green Dragon 青龍 – East, White Tiger 白虎 – West. When these 4 Heavenly enclosures are reflected onto earth, it forms the 4 Earthly Guardians 四灵 or land forms. These 4 enclosures form the outer layer of the Chinese “fixed” star. There are another 3 star streams 三垣 namely ZiWei stream 紫微垣, TaiYi stream 太微垣 and TianShi stream 天市垣. The north dipper star 北斗 is located at the ZiWei stream 紫微垣.  The Green Satchel state, ZiWei, heavenly pole. TaiYi is governing. The ruler 君临 rules 4 corners or cardinals. South facing thus govern. TianShi in eastern palace, ShaoWei western side. TaiWei southern wall, together they are the Early Heaven star map that is fixed therefore it is known as Early Heaven – Something that you want to change but cannot change – it is fixed! Early Heaven star map has also its own YinYang. It is where your XKDG is structured. Just cannot believe there are people who claimed to be using XKDG date selection and yet warning others that the 28 asterism 二十八宿 is no longer valid due to the precession of the equinox! The entire structure of XKDG is based on Early Heaven 先天.

Later Heaven 后天

Heaven has 5 stars – Jupiter 木星 (wood star),   Mars 火星 (fire star),   Saturn 土星 (earth star), Venus 金星 (metal star) and Mercury 水星 (water star). Earth has 5 elements –木 (wood), 火 (fire), 土 (star), 金 (metal) and 水 (water). When Heaven is constituting asterism, earth arrange mountain and plains - it means to say these planetary movement is affecting the mountain star 山星 and the water star 水星.

So, the 5 elements are also assigned to landforms. Qi moves as earth (moves), forms suspend (reflected from) as Heaven. Use form to examine Qi, to forecast human affairs. This is where the term as above so below comes into being. On earth we investigate the land form. Looking up the Heaven, there stars that suggest the locations of these land forms. Therefore first class master, you are supposed to be able to observe the star and to apply your FengShui cure without even the need to go to the site. However it is not true. The 5 planets plus the moon and the sun are - the 7 governors pivot working, circulate with completion and commencement. These are the moving parts of the star map that is called Later Heaven 后天. With each of these movements human affairs can be forecast and step can be taken. Therefore Later Heaven 后天 is what you can control. Out of the 7 governors, the Sun and moon are two entities that are closet to the Earth. The Sun governs season and the moon governs water.

It reminds me of what Zhang ZhongShan has to say: -

北斗者,天上北斗,主司元气化育万物者也。故斗柄指东,天下皆春,斗柄指西,天下皆秋,一生一杀,万事万物皆随斗柄为转移。

North Dipper refers to heavenly north dipper, the host of congenital Qi/YuanQi and the source of the myriad things. The handle of the dipper points east, spring arrives, handle points west, fall arrives. One birth one killing, everything and every matters are influenced by the movement of the dipper handle.
Points to note:
SanHe uses the sun path to set its Heaven Plate to establish structure. SanYuan uses the Heavenly “clock” instead to set its Heaven Plate to also establish structure. How far different can they be?
Points to note:
There is a phrase, Early Heaven as principle, Later Heaven as application. How do you see SanHe and SanYuan people using Later Heaven 后天 to control what it is not able to control as in Early Heaven 先天?

中天 = 先天為體、後天為用?

地德上载,天光下临,this phrase can also means what you did as in earthly virtue (good karma) will be bestowed by heavenly blessings. However, within the context of this classic, it meant the landform as pulled out of the surface of the earth forming mountains are the result of the stars having to arrive at that location for many light years.

Yin use Yang faces. Yang use Yin respond. YinYang mutually meet, fortune prosperity ever pure. YinYang together mismatched, misfortune disaster arriving at doorstep. That is how one supposed to use the middle heaven 中天. Therefore 三等地师满山走, is very crucial to be able to discern YinYang not otherwise you will be running around seeing nothing.

Heaven that which presides – matching the heavenly bodies, earth that which contains – the land form that contains Qi. Form retains, Qi gathers – ten thousand things are born – The ability to receive Qi there will be ShengQi. Qi moves and responds spirits blessings touch people - How does Qi moves and retain? . Heaven has image – through the star map, earth has form – through the land form. Up down mutual rules – linking the heaven and earth and complete one body – as in one applications – this speak of change.

Early & Later Heaven Relationship

Early Heaven is the Body 先天為體, object, host or principle (體) and Later Heaven 後天為用 is the soul, subject, guest or application (用). EH is a given scenario that cannot change as - in the gifts of Heaven. LH is a transformation as in Human Actions. Undoubtedly based on the principle of 體用, we said EH governs mountain, as herewith referred to human relationships and health aspect, whereas, LH governs water, as herewith referred to opportunities and wealth. LH  is something that is in our controls whereas EH is beyond our controls.

When we look into the 8 wandering Gua  游星, we are arranging the directional Qi map of the 8 sectors and if applied to the mountains or stars, we called it as PaiLong 排龙 or arranging the dragons. Another name to it is the minor wandering Gua 小游年卦. When the name of the stars from the big dipper is assigned to these Gua it is called star, hence the name 8 minor wandering Stars is surfaced 小游年星.

The similar notion is then applied to BaZhai 八宅法 when the stars are assigned to the 8 directional Qi map of the 8 sectors for a compartmentalized structure. To distinguish between these methods of arranging the stars, it is called minor wandering stars, for assigning the mountain, mainly used for burial and major wandering stars 大游年星 for assigning of Qi map for compartmentalized spaces as in a dwelling.

These form the premise of what later known as the East and West House 东西卦宅.

3 Auspicious and 6 Elegance of Starry starry Night
3 intergalactic friends namely ZiWei, TianShi and TaiWei, decides one day to leave a mark on planet earth. Seeking permission from the Jade Emperor, these friends pull the surface of the earth marking and distinctively arranging mountains, waters, streams and sands. The chief of these companions is ZiWei. He alone controls TaiYi, being a small portion of the intergalactic ZiWei streams. There he decides, among his peers which landforms are the 3 auspicious and the 6 elegance. Do you know which?

Having its sides shining the 4 extremes, being which are the 4 extremes? There comes the four and then the seven making a vertical connection. What is this connection? Why seven and not five? Has the five been in horizontally woven? Woven into what?Apparently we need to spend a lot of time looking up into the skies. It is this time that this exercise is a luxury for many modern people, whom has taken a choice of looking for the stars in the television instead. Notice how the star rotates?

Apparently we need to also spend a lot of time looking down to the shadows of the valleys. It is this time that this exercise is also a luxury for many modern people, whom has taken a choice of looking for money in the office instead. Notice how the shadow moves as the sun rotates?

Had these rotations not “woven” into something else, such as the 3 auspicious and 6 elegance, day for night and night for day? So what has been woven? What are these numbers? What are these enclosures? The best of all what the hell is 3 auspicious 6 elegance?

Monsieur Steve, have you progress with the heavenly stars?

4 Good Versus 4 Bad - East Versus West

It will be ridiculous to even think that there will be 4 bad sectors and 4 good sectors for a house. If one is living in a mansion, then the 4 bad sectors would have been easily avoidable. What if it was a case of a small apartment unit? Does it mean that the other 4 sectors will be unusable? Worst, if the notion of the 4 eastern GUA cannot match the 4 western GUA. How ridiculous such a theory can be? Imagine, what will one sees when one travels west and beyond? Will one come back to the East? So, how could west remain as west and east remain as east?

The Early and Later Heaven application has been force fitted to explain a theory in such a morbid fashion. It will be even more horrifying to note that the East and West dichotomy is due to the interaction of the 5 elements. Have any genuine theory of Chinese Metaphysics say that water and fire clash each other? If that is the case, what is the Green Satchel Classics for? Would that make any significant for the authoritative classic of 8 mansions called 8 Mansions Bright Mirror (Bazhai Ming Jing) to be relevant?

Early heaven is principle, later heaven is application. What does this really mean? Can LiuSha, WuGui, JueMing and HuoHai be auspicious? Can a husband and wife of different east and west group share the same bed use the same entrance, eat at the same table? How about the pet in the house? Before we continue bluffing ourselves with 8 mansions, why wouldn’t we revisit the fundamental? Just the fundamental.

Heaven and Earth fixed position. Which is heaven which is earth? What is the vessel, where is the Qi? Mountain and marsh connect Qi. Where is the mountain, where is the marsh? How to connect Qi? Thunder Wind mutually close. Where is the thunder and where is the wind? What has been close and what has been opened? Water and Fire not shoot each other. Which are the fire and which the water is? Why these elements don’t shoot each other? If one understands this, one will understand that there is no dichotomy of the east and the west, good and the bad. We will understand 8 mansions in another perspective. Unfortunately, we simply don’t even understand what ShengQi is and we start talking about others!

Also, seek the applications as the followings: -
Carries trunk, Kun earth,
Downward shining, Qián arranges.
Seven governors, pivot workings,
Circulate, finish, begin.
Earthly virtue, upwards convey,
Heavenly lights, downwards preside.
Yin applies, Yáng faces,
Yáng applies, Yin responds.
Yin Yáng, mutually meet,
Fortune, prosperity, ever pure.
Yin Yáng, together harness,
Misfortune, disaster follows gate.

Knowing these, all the new age theories dotting the internet will be crap and a shear display of mockery and fallacy, to reinvent an ancient theory based on modern interpretation. The current notion of east and west houses are a shear fallacy and any further discussion based on such false interpretation would be disaster resulting in breaking up of families, useless renovations, unnecessary fears, getting rich schemes, more advance Bazhai classes, 8 mansions for wealth, getting rich with 8 mansions, more books to the resume and endless forum entries such as what if the flying star chart do not conform to the 8 mansion chart?

So the next time, when such a question of this sort was put forward, such theory was discussed further, just take a seat back and laugh for one knows it is not true. Perhaps even the Green Satchel wasn't true?

The Question of Subtleties

In view that SanYuan rested on timing. YinYang Qi map is the fundamental of where to locate water and where to locate mountain. All this is term direct and indirect spirit, LingZhen.

2 cycles 8 periods referred to the Heaven Qi. There are only upper and lower cycles. Upper cycle governs period 1, 2, 3 and 4. Lower cycle governs period 6, 7, 8 and 9. There is no period 5. In the 2 cycles 8 periods, each period governs an unequal number of years. Each Yang Yao within the ruling Gua governs 6 years and the Yin Yao within the ruling Gua governs 9 years. For example in the upper cycle of period 1, the governing Gua is Kan Gua. Kan Gua has 2 Yin Yao and 1 Yang Yao. Therefore, the period 1 will last for 24 years.

The absent of period 5 is called the invincible period. It is the igniting element that will propel the cure throughout the 180 years and therefore are known as The SanYuan BuBai. So highly mysterious that it is also annexed to the method of XieZi.

On the other hand, XuanKong DaGua (XKDG) is annexed to the 2 cycles 8 period principle. It is therefore, a Heaven Qi manipulation method befitted as a date selection technique.

Whereas, 3 cycles 9 periods referred to Earth Qi. There are Upper, Middle and Lower Cycles. Upper cycle governs period 1, 2 and 3. Middle cycle governs 4, 5 and 6. Lower cycle governs 7, 8 and 9. Each period governs an equal 20 years. Thus, a cycle consists of 60 years.

One postulation suggests that 5 yellow exist in earth Qi because the 5 yellow is the center of the earth with the operative method rested on AiXing, Leaning Star with the quest to move the center of the Earth in sync with the Heaven Qi.

The Purple White Script, ZiBai Jue, is one of the fragments dislocated from the entire body of knowledge within this SanYuan framework. Similarly so with XuanKong FeiXing (Flying Star), BaZhai (8 Mansions) and LongMen BaDa Ju (Dragon Gate 8 Formations), are just subsets of the entire framework. These piece-meals methods are called, end user methodology.

The pretext state, Heaven has 9 stars, Earth has 8 Gua and Human (Man) has 8 doors. If we see SanYuan as Heaven, Earth and Man, the valid method must encompass of matching the Heaven Qi with the Earth Qi to unlock the gateways within so that the parallel dimensions between the human realm and the supernatural realm is open. Does it sound “hocus-pocus”?

As above so below is an alternative view of how Heaven Qi influences the Earth Qi and in return, how Earth Qi influence Human Being. This postulation is annex to the asterism above influence the gravitational pull that result in having mountains, the solid and rivers, the void shape the landforms that we know today. This is however, a single dimensional point of view.

What that is not explained is at every point on Earth, there is a portal ready to be opened where scripts liked the leaning, expanding, contracting, hugging, replacement are all the essence to open up the portals so that an affinity with the other side is established.

The key to these, again, are the Yi TaiQi that spins in one direction in order to open the Dao TaiQi that spin the reverse order. This is where the understanding of landforms via LingZhen spirit becomes largely important and it is the backbone of the Greater SanYuan.

Ling and Zhen as a principle is static apply for both 2 cycles and 3 cycles respectively. But the dynamic part for Earth Qi is largely governed by landforms. If the theory of as above so below is valid, then the reflections of the landforms must correspond to the asterism as above. It must works in both ways. This is to inform that by plainly accepting XKDG as a date selection without looking the actual star that present and the governing Qi respectively, SanYuan portal will not be opened. This is where results are inconsistent as sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

When we stacked the multi layers of SanYuan AiXing against the dimension of time with the arrangement of the doors, what is present to us is a stacking of multi-dimensional model, where stars lean against one another locking and unlocking the multi dimensional portals.
Is this mysterious subtleties?

We are One Big Family

The coming of the lunar 9th month marks an important event in the Dao calendar. It marks the arrival of the 9 emperor gods. Many may ignores such a great event, because the understanding is such that many academies are disassociating themselves of the spiritual inclination of Fengshui with the religion of Dao. Such were necessary when the needs to market this knowledge is deemed important to attract the audience of the Westerner. Likewise, in my previous blog, the notion of this art is indeed argued in the title called the religion of Fengshui. As the term Fengshui itself is misleading, I had move on to speak only about KanYu, leaving others to talk about Fengshui.

The 9th month marks the arrival of the 9 stars. Having the similar name of the 7 North Dipper Stars with the 2 imaginary stars, these stars are frequently used in the context of KanYu devoid of its real understanding of the potential of these stars. The ShenShi methodology of XK Flying Star array the 9 stars having the association of the period, facing and sitting stars with the 81 associated combinations for divination. Purple White on the other hand had these stars to be Qi, Image and numbers, again using the map and the book for divination. Xuan Kong Da Gua (XKDG) has the period and element numbers to match in the combination of 10, HETU and pure GUA formation for prescription. Yet these understandings are devoid of the true essence of the 9 stars.

Similarly, the understanding of the 4 enclosures and the 7 luminaries making the backbone of 3 auspicious 6 elegances mountain and water also uses these names of the 9 stars. Yet, none contain the true essence of the 9 stars. Even if one were to understand the secret of Qing Nan Au You, understand the Dian Dian Dao, one will not reckon that the arrival of the 9 stars is within the 60 dragons. Worst if the understanding of KanYu is butchered in a way of the 2 schools of thought namely San He and San Yuan. There is no SanHe or SanYuan to begin with. SanYuan is not derived from SanHe neither is SanHe derived from SanYuan. There is only Heaven, Man and Earth. The rest is being made up for publications.

This is the true reflection of San Yuan. We are one big family indeed. KanYu originated from China with a reason. This is a Chinese art, for a reason. Again, if you move far west, one will come back to the east. The affinity of the family comes in three.

I remembered, some practitioner said, KanYu is a fire related field. Master of the old never said that. KanYu belongs to the field of the 5 elements with fire and water being more prominent. Saying thus, I remembered a famous master trainer did said, most of the practitioners must have the fire and water in their BaZi, notably a water person will be instrumental to control the so called art of fire. This fire element must be Bing fire, the most Yang element and the self element must be Gui water being the most Yin element of the 10 pantheon of heavenly stem. Having these Yin Yang stars marked the proficiency of the practitioners to master the art. This I must forewarned to be taken with a huge pinch of salt. By the same token, if ever a master said, only the water day master person will be a good KanYu master, please take it as a marketing gimmick.

Master of the old said, heaven and earth fixed positions; water and fire never shoot each other. Meaning to establish heavenly affinity, heaven and earth must be in proper location in which fire and water never controls each other. Here, one sees that what is the use when the Sun as in Bing Fire meets a cloud, Gui water? Where is wisdom in such an argument? Being useful and Yang, the Sun must reveal and being humble and resourceful, the Yin vapors must be hidden in the branches as the source of life. This is the beginning of the greater SanYuan.

Early heaven is the principle, later heaven is the application. EH arrangement being Li Gua at the East. LH application having Zhen Gua at the East. Matching both, revealing Bing Fire, the affinity starts with the three. San Yuan starts with the three. The one big family starts with the three.

It is on this day, WuZi year, DingYou month and BingZi day, the three comes together receiving the essence of SanYuan. The DaGua is unaccomplished. There is more work to be done in dispelling the misconception of this art. Do you now belong to the one big family?

7 STAR ROBBERY七星打劫法 - YOU ROB ME OR I ROB YOU ?

7 Star Robbery Method 七星打劫法 is a XuanKong water method. Foremost where is the root source of this method?

天玉经 (地理辨證)

认得父母三般卦,
便是真神路,
北斗七星去打劫,
离宮要相合。

Translation: -

Know parent SanBan Gua
Easily have real spirit road,
North Dipper seven star, outgoing robbery,
Li palace must coincide.

Commentary: -

The SanHe people has this entire phrase – never existed in their version of Heaven Jade Classic. On such account 7 Star Robbery Method 七星打劫法 is uttered rubbish! The XuanKong people, however, is claiming that SanHe people know nuts. They cannot make head and tail about it and therefore they conveniently removed this passage. Is there an iota of truth in both camps of the FengShui political divide? Yet within XuanKong school itself, they never agreed and the results are there are many ways of looking at 7 Star Robbery Method 七星打劫法.

Zheng ZhongZan 章仲山, explained that Parent SanBan Gua 父母三般卦, referred to Heaven Jade Classic’s 4 ordinal locations as Parent SanBan. Xun (4) arriving at Dui (7) and Dui to Kan (1). This is XuanKong’s Parent SanBan Gua that is originating from the 9 stars. He continue to explain the rest. Yet, no attempt as to how Li palace 离宮 must be combined in this equation? So most translated version available in books take Li离 as Li palace 离宮 of the 8 trigrams. For sure it is entirely irrelevant and to some extend wrongfully translated.

The FeiXing School approach...

First qualifications are houses must have the combinations of
1-4-7 (period 7),
2-5-8 (period 8) and
3-6-9 (period 9).

Note that the last number correspond to the timeliness of the said period. Second qualifications are the structure of the house must conform to double stars arriving at sitting or facing. Third qualifications are these sets of three combination must be of the facing star and be activated by the physical structure. Fourth qualifications the three combination must be supported by the physical structure of the house, namely the main door, window opens to the outside and the secondary door.

This school take the premise of the secret of SanBan Gua is that the timely star will rob the auspiciousness of the rest of the stars making it auspicious for 180 years and to activate such, one must attempt to use fire activation as in Li palace 离宮, represents fire.

As a result 2 configurations namely: -

1.  Linear
2.  Diagonal

Yet, many houses are like that and they never prosper? Some school believes that the reason is, XuanKong DaGua is not applied therefore you cannot see the result.

Earth Study Discern Truth Detailed Analysis - Zhang ZhongShan states -

North Dipper refers to heavenly north dipper, the host of congenital Qi/YuanQi and the source of the myriad things. The handle of the dipper points east, spring arrives, handle points west, fall arrives. One birth one killing, everything and every matters are influenced by the movement of the dipper handle. To rob, robbing means to obtain Qi. Only in Li Palace (or leaving the palace) you are able to rob. Not conform, you cannot rob.

Comes upper cycle 1 white timely, 2 black dispatch and 2 black conjoins upper cycle matching lower period 7 auspicious. 3 jade timely, matching lower period 8 white, 9 purple always prosperous.

2 black 7 red has 1 white in Li Palace (leaving palace) mutually resonance, thus 2 can rob 1. 8 white 9 purple with 3 jade, Li Palace (or leaving the palace), mutually resonance 8 can rob 3, 9 can rob 3. Covering 1 cycle receive two Yuan Dragon use. Within has secret, mysteriously mystical, ascending up one level of use. Is one script.

Once again speak that, in upper cycle period 1 prosperous, left in proximity Chou right neighboring Hai, YinYang 2 houses Ren, Hai, Gui, Chou upper cycle, producing children wealth noble conspicuous. Lower cycle produce longevity and scholarly achievement? To cover Heaven and earth can be reproduced to cover various structure, producing abundance of graceful events. Use such Qi will be effortless.

Commentery: -

WuChang subscribed to Heaven Qi - the Dipper movement as governing season on Earth Qi. Using Heaven Qi to govern Earth Qi. Using HeTu Qi to manipulate LoShu Qi. To rob must only happen in Li Palace? To rob you must leave your palace to another palace so that you can rob? Technically, the second premise sound logical. You ought to rob others for your own benefits. Or you go out and rob not staying at a particular place to rob. In such way, it is assumed that WuChang employ Flying star. Here to fly one must have a point of departure and a point of arrival. In this case we can assumed it is LoShu - yet not rightly correct.

In upper cycle, 1 is timely - the 司令 is much appropriately called in command. 1 white is the commanding officer dispatching 2 black to do his dirty work. 2-7 is a HeTu pair, therefore 2 is able to rob the prosperity of the 7. The keyword is 1 dispatching 2, so there is movement. 1 being the commanding officer will never move. He is station in the center. Therefore this phrase 尤属秘中之秘 becomes very important. So - 1, 2 and 7 are of a group. By the same token, 9 dispatches 8 to rob 3 - that is another set of 9,8 and 3. If you do the permutation - it does not reflect any resemblance of the Flying star chart with the absent of 5.

Let's look at the last example, 上元一白司令 denotes upper cycle 1 white commanding, immediately we think of structure - 1 and 2 rob 7. The following stanza 左近乎丑,右邻乎亥 meaning left in proximity Chou right neighboring Hai but what has such left and right got to do with 1,2,7? Then, 阴阳二宅 can be construed as House or Grave. It can also mean YinYang mountains - Chou being Yin and Hai being Yang. The location of 壬、亥、癸、丑 can be construed as the sitting mountains yet, what happened to Zi?

It all points out that Left/Right turning refer to the cyclic arrangement of the Star probably known as Leaning star and not flying star. So, in period 1 and 2 star Qi 7 can be used - it is all about XKDG.

The DaGua School approach...

Jiang DaHung (JDH) annotated in DLBZ the following stanzas: -

上二句,引起下文之义,言识得三卦父母,已是真神路矣,犹须晓得北斗七星打劫之法,则三般卦之精髓方得,而最上一乘之作用也。北斗云何?知离宫之相合,即知北斗之义矣。

Translation - First 2 sentences give rise to followings, Say knowing parent SanBan Gua, already is real spirit road! Still must explain obtain north dipper 7 star robbery method,
Then, SanBan Gua locations obtained. Superior in harnessing this application.  North dipper means what? Know Li (leaving) Palace this coincides, Indeed know north dipper meaning.

What the heck is JDH trying to explain? This school believes that Parent SanBan Gua means GuaYun or the period luck as attached to every single XKDG Hexagram. The secret is when all the Hexagram within the same palace transform, FanGua 反卦, only one Hexagram remains unchanged. That is the only Hexagram period luck that leaves the Palace and rob the auspicious of the rest of the palaces Hexagram. Therefore in XKDG if you are able to connect Qi to this 7 star robbery, your auspiciousness can last for 180 years. So, the term Li 离 does not mean Li Palace in this context, it simply means “leaving the palace” to rob.

The JingFang School aproach...

This splinter school does not subscribe to this verse DianDao 顛倒 as annotated in Zheng ZhongZan 章仲山 explanation, opposite as FanGua 反卦, reverse Gua. It subscribed that according to JinFang 8 trigrams, there are only 5 generation of transformations before the 6th when the soul of the Hexagram leave the palace as in leaving the palace 离宮, it returns with a complete different self-called the Returning Soul and it happens in the 7th transformation where it leaves the palace and rob the auspiciousness of the other palaces. This school look at the Yao-transformation technique instead.

In summary...

I know of one “Kiasu” school that employed all these techniques that I had presented here and they professed the secret techniques of door tilting. First, they do the Flying star chart and when they get the Qi map, they tilted the door to activate the 7 star robbery formation. They further refined to the Yao degree so that it conforms to the JingFang 8 palaces.

In reality - 7 Star Robbery Method 七星打劫法 is a hoax. It conceals the real techniques of SanYuan DaGua’s application of the RenPan 人盘.

MEASURING HEAVEN JADE RULER - 量天玉尺

玉尺经 Yu CheJing or the Jade Ruler Classics was believed to be the last book written by YangGong. It comprises 3 volumes of scroll namely – ZaoWeiFu 造微赋, TianJiFu 天机赋, ZhuJiFu 逐 吉 赋. strangely, it was not included in DiLiBianZhen or Earth Study Discern Truth. For both SanHe and SanYuan schools, ZaoWeiFu 造微赋 summarizes the techniques of applying YangGong method. It is also very strange that HHC did not include this in his book – Water-water everywhere that is supposed to be a reference book for SanHe water method. YuCheJing or Jade Ruler Classic together with QingNanAoYou or Green Satchel Sacred Saying 青囊奥语 and TianYuJing or Heaven Jade Classics 天玉經, are the complete textbooks of the curriculum of YangGong method.

Although GuanFengXiang 關鳳翔  claimed that it was written in gibberish as an “unintelligible language” due to the author’s intellectually handicapped for some Daoist sect, these texts are the fundamentals prescribing the techniques of ZhangShu or Burial Classics 葬經 authored by Qing WuZi 青烏子 instead of GuoPu 郭璞. Indeed it requires some form of commentaries by the respective school be it SanHe or SanYuan to give meanings to the text.

Between believing in GuanFengXiang 關鳳翔 claims and seeing how these textbooks crossed the “tees” and dotted the “eyes”, I must confessed that it contains the most if not all, complete skill of YangGong method. I must also insist that one compared the versions as provided by both schools for throughout analysis.

(This phrase is absent in LiDingXin’s version)

Translation: - [This phrase talks about YinYang principles]

TaiQi distinct two slices settle.
Two Qi spread forward and reverse move.
Left Yang right Yin.
Dragon moves both ways.
With Yang forward, Yin reverse.
Qi origins from single source.
Yin use Yang concurred.
Yang use Yin conformed.
To meet is harmony as one family.
Yang will grow Yin,
Yin will harbor Yang.
CiXiong discern copulate is sentimental.

Commentaries: -

The opening chapter already spelt that discerning YinYang is of paramount important before anything else. If you fail to discern YinYang 定阴阳, the subsequent steps are of no use. It states that Qi moves forward and reverse, dragon moves both ways and left Yang, right Yin so are Yang forward Yin reverse. The SanHe people uses such to establish structure 定局 while the SanYuan people uses such to arrange the dragon 排龍. Establish structure 定局 and arrange the dragon 排龍 are FengShui skills that must be taught by a legitimate school of FengShui.

Qi origins from single source is to imply that it is important to locate the single Qi source. Failing so you will not able to define your Qi map -气图. SanYuan people will say Dragon Mountain Facing Water 龍山向水 while its SanHe counterparts will say Break Killing Acquire Water 破煞纳水 or Receiving Yin Pushing Sha 收山出煞. They can mean the same thing or absolutely different things. So, the classics deliberately specify: -

Yin use Yang concurred, Yang use Yin conformed.
To meet is harmony as one family.
Yang will grow Yin, Yin will harbor Yang.
CiXiong discern copulate is sentimental.

Now, imagine if you cannot discern YinYang - how to Dragon Mountain Facing Water 龍山向水 or Eliminate Sha Acquire Water 消砂纳水?

SanYuan uses this structure Dragon Mountain Facing Water 龍山向水 – which is Yin and which is Yang? SanHe uses the term Eliminate Sha Acquire Water 消砂纳水. The key word is in NaShui 纳水 or ride ShengQi. The question is how to ride ShengQi? Is the Dragon 龍 Yang and the Water 水 Yin or vice versa? Is SanYuan the total opposite of SanHe? As SanHe measures the “Solid” while SanYuan measures the “Emptiness”?

Better still, this verse Receiving Yin Pushing Sha 收山出煞, that is a single liner in TianYuJing 天玉經, that says: -

天玉經

更有收山出煞訣,亦兼為汝說。

Translation: -

And also the method of Receiving Yin Pushing Sha of which you have been told clearly.

How clear can that be? That is why when CiXiong is discerned, copulate is sentimental…

ART OF RECEIVING YIN - 1

The art of receiving Yin and pushing Sha, 收山出煞, has many interpretations. Among all definitions, XieZi, 些子, is one of the lesser known. Some define Shan, 山, as mountain while others define it as Yin, static, solidify Qi or stillness. This art is to enable one to turn Yin into Yang and vice-versa.

Many assumed, WuChang, 無常, lineage practiced 收山出煞, according to the displacing YinYang principles. It has to do with 山上龙神不下水,水里龙神不上山, Dragon Mountain God doesn’t dive; Dragon Water God doesn’t climb. 收山, means prosperous mountain stars matching higher ground, while prosperous water stars matching lower ground. 出煞, is to do the reverse. Same token, a mountain god will be drowned and a water god will be dead thirsty, when their YinYang is displaced. It assumed, Dragon God 龙神 meant the 9 stars. The malignant star will be harmless when their YinYang is displaced. One question is does the term Dragon God, 龙神 really refers to the 9 stars?

Adding to the fallacy, Sheng 沈氏玄空學, gives additives to 收山出煞, by introducing the sitting and facing stars. It assumed that sitting star is mountain star and facing star is water star. That is where it is often mixed up between the need to LiPan or to GePan. Establishing sitting and facing stars became cumbersome. If someone tells you that the same row of shops has a different sitting and facing because they measure it by reference to the door. Sheng’s method on 收山出煞 is deemed to work only if it falls within its “structure” which is one reason why Flying Star sometimes, doesn’t work.

Another reason for 收山出煞 comes from SanYuan point of view. It is called the principle of Direct and Indirect, 零正. Any violation to this principle would not see results in the application of SanYuan. The idea of 零正 comes from Prosperous Qi arriving at the un-prosperous sector while depleting Qi is revitalized by the prosperous sector. It means to say, 8 timely Star will see Northeast sector prosperous 正神. It prefers to receive Yin 收山. Southwest, would be untimely 零神 and prefers to push Sha 出煞 to accumulate water. In many instances, violation of Direct and Indirect Spirits, 零正 also see positive results in many real life cases.

The LiuFa 六法 offers a different perspective by introducing the idea of JingLung or Golden Dragon 金龍 as an annotation to the 5 yellow in their manipulation of the LoShu chart, by means of LoShu path flight based on the YinYang Gua, to explain why in the many instances violation of 零正 also see positive results. However, this theory is force-fitting, as LoShu only leans forward as time only travels forward and not backward, unless space time dimension is bent.

Another novel idea of 收山出煞 came from DaGua 大卦. One advocated that DaGua 大卦 is the body, FlyingStar 飞星 is the application owing to the former has the basis in the Early Heaven and the later has the basis in the Later Heaven. One uses DaGua to match LongShan XiangShui 龍山向水 to achieve YiGua ChunQing 一卦純清 and matching FlyingStar chart to acquire the timely purple white. Therefore, door tilting became the upmost important method. Once the door tilt, both the FlyingStar and the Hexagram altered. It introduced yet another caveat known as the Out of Gua and JingFang’s 京房 Hexagram to look ever more convincing. This is another form of 收山出煞, where 收山 by having in-Gua or using the same family Hexagram and 出煞 by putting one out of Gua or different family Hexagram. If this theory works, then all the tilted doors must be enjoying bountiful business but yet, real case studies revealed otherwise. The response to critics is that, most of these tilted doors do not conform to landform, therefore, it doesn’t work.

Picture

ART OF RECEIVING YIN - 2

LiQi 理氣 must conform to forms 形勢 for things to work. Alongside with some observations, those tilted doors which work are actually the one which conforms to land form. However, how do one know that it is the forms 形勢 that is working all these while and not LiQi 理氣, as forms never lie, formula not necessary tells the truth. It is therefore, prudent to note that door tilting is not the only answer to 收山出煞.

Another form of 收山出煞, came from SanYuan LungMen BaDa Ju, 龍門八大局 or their SanHe version called QianKun GuoBao, 乾坤國寶. Before these schools ever attempt to 收山出煞, they must first define the confluence of two rivers from the Heaven Gua not breaking the Earth Gua structure. If it ever conforms to the 8 structures 八大局, they will attempt to receive Yin 收山 otherwise they will alter their facing to rid themselves from the 8 Killing Waters and the 8 Killing Mountains. These schools also derived a Middle Heaven Gua 中天卦, sometimes also referring to as Star Robbery, having to deal with such is their version of pushing Sha 出煞. Vividly remember a fellow Penang master, having to joke that as though these methods teach you to pull your pants down before you fart, in their attempt to play with the Heaven and Earth Gua. Very thought provoking and entertaining indeed. Theoretical wise, it makes sense. Practical wise, some of the so called 8 structures 八大局 contradict landform principles. So, their versions of 收山出煞 is again good on theory, faulty in application.

YangGong method 楊公法 needs little introduction. Calling the art of receiving Yin and pushing Sha, 收山出煞 by another name, XiaoSha NaShui 消砂纳水, this SanHe version uses a combination of dependent theories to evaluate the environment, layer by layer of YinYang to determine the so called Pure YinYang 純陰陽. So, contradictory that absolute YinYang would not grow, so how possible is it to receive ShengQi? Here is where the “great misunderstanding” comes in. XiaoSha NaShui 消砂纳水 is entirely different from ShouShan ChuSha 收山出煞. One is talking about NaShui 纳水 the other is talking about ShouShan 收山. The operative word is what is the use of ShouShan 收山? Other than that is lineage secret – out of bound.

The much proven method of 收山出煞, is within its landform with regards to its Qi mouth receiving Qi from the Bright Hall. Receiving Yin 收山, is to sink in and 出煞 is to protrude. Sunken or protrude doesn’t automatically means one is able to receive or retain ShengQi. The idea of sunken when the Qi flow is weak or Yin and to protrude to catch Qi in the wide open space or strong flowing Qi or Yang Qi may also be misleading. This is often a beginner’s mistake. There are many more layers of YinYang which this very method of 收山出煞 needs to gel with, in order to see results. YinYang is only the very first layer to begin with.

TianYu Jing 天玉經 has this to say,

汝今傳得地中仙,玄空妙难言,翻天倒地更玄玄,大卦不易傳。
更有收山出煞诀,亦兼为汝说。相逢大地能几人,各个是知心,
若还求地不种德,稳口深藏舌。

Translated as - now you have passed down teachings to obtain earth immortality, XuanKong subtlety is difficult to describe. Transforming Heaven changing Earth furthermore very mysterious, DaGua difficult to pass down. Furthermore, have receiving Yin pushing Sha methodology, similar, together have you persuaded. Meet great earth, can how many person be? Everyone does care. If still look for earth without cultivating virtues, conceal mouth deeply hide tongue.

This may be a reason, why many teachers are not willing to teach this very fundamental knowledge of FengShui and all that can be prescribed are the tons of theory which if often nice on paper, difficult in application.

One FengShui enthusiast from Penang asked, why are you not teaching FlyingStar? The answer to her is obvious; FlyingStar can easily be read off from books. Others liked receiving Yin and pushing Sha, 收山出煞 is priceless. That is one reason, Establishing Heaven Heart (天心十道) and Arranging YinYang (阴阳排龙) is in our syllabus for the beginners.

BOOK REVIEW ON YANGGONG OLD METHOD - ENGLISH SOURCE

Picture
Title: Qing Nang Ao Yu
Author: Prof. Yap Cheng Hai / Prof. Dr. Yang Kim Voon

Reflection:

It is timely that such an information on YangGong is made available in the English language, although I must admit that MoonChin has started the ball rolling via his maiden E-Book on the same subject, of which I had made a commentary review on it. The title Qing Nang Ao You (QNAY) is similar to the classics written by the Great Grandmaster Yang Jun Song, known as YangGong. However, this book should have been a commentary on QNAY and not QNAY per se, in accordance to Ganzhou Yue Che Tang perspectives. For this and in the written style of Chinese way of thinking in the English medium, I do not reckon any inputs or role that Prof Yap has included in this manuscript, for among others, Prof Yap is well known for his Eight Mansion techniques and not YangGong old method. On another view, it would have been an absolute “cut and paste” effort of the collectives of exchanges of views between Prof Yang with other experts via MoonChin, being at the time his most senior student, in the same subject via emails and forums that had once stormed the internet causing much excitement to the many especially in notion of mountain as Yang, water as Yin (also read http://fsrcenter.blogspot.com/2009/05/yin-and-yang-and-life.html for an antagonistic view). The way this book is written could have been professionally edited in the English language making it easier to read, rather then running about the bush. However, I must admit in terms of contents it is much more loaded as compared to the one written by MoonChin on the same subject. If the former is only surface deep, this is at least skin deep.

I would just highlight a few matters of interest as the followings, The 4 major water structures had its genesis with HeTu, rooted on the fact that Earth is the mother of Qi, Qi is the mother of water, in accordance to ZhangShu. So there are only 4 structures namely wood, water, metal and fire. Earth structure follows water structure. This is incoherent with the HeTu. In geography, there are 3 dragons coming into China from west to the east, before branching into 5 branches namely Qian, Kun, Kan, Li and Dui. Thus the western side of China is always higher then the eastern side. If South is taken as the facing, we would end up having the white tiger higher then the green dragon almost deviated from the known notion of FengShui that the green dragon must be higher then the white tiger positions in order to receive auspiciousness. This in my reflection this is fallacy number one.

As in HeTu, the incoming dragon takes a male role, therefore it is Yang. This dragon carries external Qi. Whereas, for every notable dragon, there must be a consort called water dragon. This water dragon is female in gender, Yin, carrying internal Qi. ZhangShu explicitly explained that to receive FengShui is to ride ShegQi. In another word, the objective of FengShui is to seat on the spot where internal Qi meet (marry or intercourses) external Qi, called a XuanKong phenomena, cannot be seen with its effect which can be felt. Almost, contradicting the usually assumed Mountain being static is Yin and water being dynamic is Yang. With this hypothesis, it has shaken many fundamentals of other school of thoughts on the same subject. This is in my reflection this is fallacy number two.

Next, out of the 5 dragons, there are only 4 visible ones called Bing, Jia, Ren and Geng, reflecting again the HeTu. Correspondently, there will be 4 female water dragon consorts reflecting, Yi, Gui, Xin and Ding. Care must be taken that these male and female must be matched accordingly. This brought the entire discussion into what constitute host and guest. The emphasis is to look at Bing dragon finds its consort as Yi water, Jia with its Gui consort, Ren with its Xin consort and Geng with Ding consort. This is what known as left and right turning. I would come to a conclusion that these theories is over laden to guide one into looking for the correct water exits, just in simple term. Yet with these explanation, in practice, one still have difficulty in locating the water exits without proper examples on searching for the water mouth). This is in my reflection this is fallacy number three.

I would reserve the rest of my reflections for some other times.

In summary, this is a good recommendation on the subject matter with its major setbacks of ease of legibility, poor graphics, minimal diagrammatic explanation, nonsensical and irrelevant references, repetitive passages and interstices of ideas in a fragmented ways. I would have expected better writtings in academic framework especially comming from the background of PhD, post PhD and Professorhood calibre. After reading it, I cannot help but to wonder with a sense of Deja-Vu, that the contents are derived wholesale stock load and barrel from another source by MoonChin or someone else. Again, I am looking forward to the next publications, if any and hopefully with improved editing and manuscript.

Title: Yang Gong FengShui - Fundamental Theories
Author: M.L. Chin
Link: http://www.kanyu-world.net/

Review:

This is a very BASIC book of Yang Gong FengShui written in the pretext of the so called old method or GuFa. Although the introduction is brief, it is meant to give an over simplified view of classifications as the old method versus the new method for purpose to allow reader to further research into both techniques without the preconceive ideas of which is neither superior nor otherwise. As this work reflects on the writer, whom was a disciple of Yang Gong Old method, he has consciously tried to distance himself from writing a biased view with regards to Yang Gong in an idolised manner, although with its setbacks. From the continuous explanations, such devoid of idolization result in many interpretations that is purportedly classify as Yang Gong old method, very distinctive in nature and in a style of explanation only found common within the Chinese literate FengShui communities. Saying thus, the ways in which a postulation is made is typically Chinese in thinking, logic and understanding. For a western reader, such will pose a greater degree of irrational line of reasoning and logic. Perhaps the notion of things being Chinese would need to be clarify before embarking on this book.

Chapter 1 resemble the history of Yang Gong in a nutshell. When it states that Yang Gong is the Imperial Master, such title has a far reaching impact to the Chinese reader then any others, as such title bearer holds the responsibility beyond the living and the death. The tale of how Yang Gong left the imperial palace and live among the commoner in a place now called Yang Xian Ling or Mountain of the Sagely Yang, on a superficial level indicates its genesis, which again may lead to further abuse of identification of authenticity of any FengShui lineages, as Yang Gong old and new methods are one of the many lineages harping around this art of FengShui. At a deeper level, although not mentioned in details, is the name of Jiu Ping annexed to Yang Gong as the savior of the poor. Meaning in regardless of the auspiciousness of a place, such method can still make a difference to a commoner.

Chapter 2 resemble the definition of Growing Qi, ShengQi. The writer tries to give different perspective of ShengQi in accordance to different schools although not without its setbacks. More importantly, the writer stress the fact that ShengQi stems from the underlying knowledge of the 12 growth phases with relation to the 5 processes, each found in the 8 directions. Precisely saying, the purpose of FengShui is to ride ShengQi both the internal and the external, a concept annexed to the Burial Classics again, by another great grandmaster before Yang Gong, name GuoPu. Here the methodology is silenced, as prescribed it is just a BASIC book of Yang Gong Old Method.

Chapter 3 resemble the meanings of Qi or Water Mouth. The opening pretext stems on comparison between the other schools, again not without its setbacks. The underlying principle is first to indentify what is not Watergate. Then, only to identify what is Watergate, typical of a Chinese way of reasoning. That is still not the catch. The writer brings its reader one full cycle of landform analogy of how Qi is born out of earth and water is born out of Qi, follows by why water follows mountain as the principle of water is Yin, female and Mountain is Yang, male. Such postulation has caused heated debates among the contemporary FengShui theorist today and is taken as a distinctive boundary between the old methods with the new method, although I may differ in such opinions. These male and female marry in the so called XuanKong with the front bright hall. The intercourse of male and female give birth to ShengQi, before the water exits via the Watergate, usually locked by two mountains. At this point of explanations, there is again, no conclusive definition as to what constitute a Watergate, liken to the act of chasing mirage.

Chapter 4 resembles more round about arguments as first the theory of what and what not constitute a mountain dragon and the water dragon annexed to phrases and definition found in the burial classics. Overall, it is noted that these dragons are found naturally and not drains that were dug out, purportedly to mirror the water dragon and lumps of mud to represent mountain dragon. More importantly, it states that the male and female moves parallel to each other. What does this signify in regards to Yang turning or Yin turning was not discuss in details and were left for other chapters. The rest of the sub chapters were more geared towards rebuttal of the other method, not constituting the old method school of thoughts. To the uninitiated, it brings forth a sense of supremacy of the old method over the new method with highlights of redundancy of the Yin Yang denotation of the Heaven plate and the use of the Human plate to audit the external environment. More importantly the notions of Yin matches Yang or vice versa are deeply misunderstood when it comes to the Yin Yang Heaven plate. The roles of the human plate were rather sketchy and were left unaddressed.

Chapter 5 resembles the famous Yang Gong 72 dragon rings. The postulations of each directions consists of the 5 elements are explained here in a geomantic manners. The writer subconsciously idolised the intelligence of Yang Gong when he explains the derivation of the 72 dragons in pain taking details, almost of explaining from the inner rings to the outer rings of the Heaven plate. It is just a pity that the writer did not include diagrammatic explanations to ease understanding. The other subchapters dwell more into the notions of death and emptiness lines or void lines but never mention in detail as the applications of these void lines and how would a practitioner quantify such in a nexus of its measurements. A comparative discussion were made against other school of thoughts notably Xuan Kong, again which bias towards the Yang Gong Old Method. These 72 dragons were annexed to another postulation of Dian Dian Dao sequence which was to be explained in detail in chapter 9. Reaching thus far, it is not easy to consume all the postulations put forth at a glance, critically, as it was explains in a typical Chinese way of understanding towards the subject matter in a flux at a beginner or entry level.

Chapter 6 resembles the introduction of the 12 growth phases, the 3 combinations or frames, the palm method for ease of remembrance. These palm method is very useful to ease the art of memorizing, again something very Chinese in inclination, almost devoid of using the LuoPan. This follow by the way of reading the Heaven’s plate on paper or in theory only. It absolutely sound easy, nevertheless very difficult if one is not shown the way in practice.

Chapter 7 resembles the notorious arguments of the old method supremacy which were very bias in nature. Along these line of arguments, the idolisation of Yang Gong takes centre stage almost liked taking a direct reference from other writings in the same subject in the Chinese language.

Chapter 8 resembles the modus operandi of Yang Gong old method 9 procedural practices from pre-audit to rectification of others “screw-up” FengShui jobs in a glance. Yes, do not expect anything more then a glance and it works well fine as a brochure to advertise and advocate Yang Gong old method as a curriculum.

Chapter 9 is note worthy and resembles the discussion of the classical text of Qing Ran Ao You at a theoretical approach only without much reference to applications.

In summary, when one understood the method, it is as easy as A B and C. Although the writer wishes to explain in a beating about the bush manners and very Chinese way of postulation, many so called secrets are woven in the arguments put forth. Unfortunately it only reserve for the one who knows such method and never for the uninitiated. If this is a beginner book, I would have rated it as less then skin deep. However, comparatively to the tons of pages of reference books that only displays charts and charts of meaningless graphics and glossy travelogues of searching the dragon, this is indeed a book worth its price and contents. At least, one who does not have access to the Chinese books written on the same subject, would have now granted a glimpse into the intricacy of the arts served raw.

SANHE AND ITS COUSIN SANYUAN

Any different between SanYuan DaGua 三元大卦 and XuanKong DaGua 玄空大卦? It is the same question pertaining to the different between YangGong Fa 杨公法 with SanHe Fa 三合法? They may look the same but in techniques they are far apart.

ABOUT SANYUAN...

XuanKong 玄空 is a subset of the larger school of SanYuan 三元. SanYuan is a school heavily annexed to the system of calendric sciences one being known as SanYuan QiMen DunJia 三元奇门遁甲. As time passes, the authentic art of SYQMDJ has been watered down. With the emergence of master liked Jiang DaHung notably bastardizing the work of grandmaster Yang YunSong as in DiLi BianZhen, XuanKong DaGua 玄空大卦 emerged to replace SanYuan DaGua 三元大卦.

The late Chen BeiSheng 陈倍生 of HongKong was the acclaimed master of XuanKong DaGua 玄空大卦 while the late Zheng ZiNan of Taiwan was the acclaimed master of SanYuan DaGua 三元大卦. Both are known to merge QiMen DunJia 奇门遁甲 and DaGua 大卦 simultaneously but yet they are so far apart. Ultimately what is so different between XuanKong and SanYuan?

At one level, SanYuan is able to merge with SanHe. SanHe has remained to be the fore runner of YangGong method. All FengShui methods come from Qing WuZi before GuoPu and subsequently Yang YunSong. There is only one method – YangGong method or probably known also as GanZhou method. Subsequently, splinter group forms and SanYuan school was born and probably known also as FuJian method. SanYuan school is developed upon SanHe theories and at certain level, it merges. They differ most likely as: -

  1. SanHe ride ShengQi from where Qi begins, SanYuan tap ShengQi from where Qi ends.
  2. SanHe arranges dragons based on the peak, while SanYuan arranges dragons based on the velleys.
  3. SanHe measures Qi from StemBranch while SanYuan measures Qi from the Hexagram.
  4. SanHe formations are pivoted upon the 4 frames while SanYuan formations are pivoted upon the 3 spirits.
  5. SanHe point of reference is the seating, SanYuan point of reference is the facing.
  6. SanHe take dragon as Yang, water as Yin while SanYuan takes dragon as Yin, water as Yang.
  7. The lists continue…

The similarities are: -
  1. Discerning YinYang is still the first layer in application.
  2. Both schools also discern the 2 YinYang to the 4 structures, 8 formations and 16 permutations.
  3. SanHe LuoPan comprises of Earth, Heaven and Human Plate but the SanYuan LuoPan also comprises of Earth and Heaven Plate with the lesser known Human Plate also called mid-Heaven Plate.
  4. Both schools employ the system of NaJia and NaYin – by the same token their YinYang are the same… surprise, surprise!
  5. SanHe emphasis on Dragon, Embrace, Spot and Water which are the same as SanYuan Dragon, Mountain, Facing and Water.
  6. SanHe uses Direct Five Elements while SanYuan uses HeTu elements.
  7. SanHe measures the horizontals and SanYuan measures the verticals.
  8. The lists continue…

What we see today, SanYuan comprises of: -
  1. BaZhai 八宅 or 8 mansions method with its subsidiaries such as DaYuNian, BaZhai MinJing 八宅明镜, YangZhai SanYao 阳宅三要 and HuangDi ZhaiJing 黃帝宅經 for internal applications
  2. QuanKun GuoBao 乾坤国宝 or LongMen BaDaJu 龙门八大局 meaning QianKun National Treasure and Dragon Gate 8 Formations are SanYuan method on Land Form FengShui.
  3. JiuXing ShuiFa 九星水法 or 9 Stars Water Method and AiXing Fa 挨星诀 or Leaning Star method with some called Purple White or ZiBai JiuGong Jue 紫白決 furthered watered down to ShenXue XuanKong FeiXing Fa 沈氏玄空學 or the popular known Flying Star method and the subsequent splinter of XuanKong LiuFa 玄空六法 or the Six Method.
  4. DaGua 大卦 or Huge Hexagram methodology with XianTian XuanKong DaGua QiMen DunJia 先天玄空大卦奇门遁甲 hybrids and the sort.

These are fragments of the complete system of SanYuan method systematically concealing the secret of YangGong FengShui. Even the distorted DiLi BianZhen has been cleverly crafted to conceal the application of the real SanYuan water method.

Picture
The SanYuan Core System

All SanYuan methods must conform to this arrangement. It is how SanYuan measures the Heaven. If one is not able to discern its core configurations, any application of SanYuan method will be futile and one is not able to merge SanYuan to SanHe. In fact, SanHe is so predominantly fundamental that only SanYuan is able to achieve miracles. There is wisdom in saying first class master looks for the stars, second class master look for the water mouth and third class master run around the mountains seeing nothing. It shows to say the fundamental of water mouth SanHe FengShui is still very valid before one able to discern the stars and the constellations. Sadly, such has been omitted in most modern schools of Chinese Metaphysics.

The SanYuan XKDG LuoPan

The LuoPan is an indispensable tool for the FengShui practitioners - This is a fact. However, how many of us actually goes beyond the 24 mountain plate?

In the SanHe LuoPan, there is a distinctive rings called the the Earth plate, the Heaven plate and the Human plate. The only common things between the SanHe and the SanYuan LuoPan is the Earth plate. What if in the SanYuan LuoPan there is also the Heaven and the Human plate? Does the SanYuan practitioners also do what is done by their SanHe counterparts?

To the XKDG addicts, any reason for a 22.5 degree shift of the DaGua rings from the Earth plate? Perhaps the conpendium of LuoPan needs some overhaul?

Picture
… After all the heavy weights, let us come back to FengShui 101.

There are a few good books in English explaining about LuoPan, including the Compendium. However, it never dwell deep into the origin of YinYang of the 24 mountain plate of the so called, SanYuan LuoPan. It only prescribed that 24 mountain is further categorized into Heaven, Man and Earth subsector or Yuan Dragon in the manner of Yin-Yang-Yang or Yang-Yin-Yin configurations. Thereafter… nothing mentioned.

To the ONE RING masters, especially from the Flying Star School, these Yin-Yang-Yang or Yang-Yang-Yin configurations are how the 9 stars “fly” forward or backward in the LoShu chart. Beyond that… nothing mentioned.

So, before one worries about 明师盘线, loosely translated as Great Master’s LuoPan Line, emmm… what say if one try to find out, why do of the so called, SanYuan LuoPan has the YinYang configuration such as this?

Picture
SANYUAN YINYANG DRAGONS

Apparently the compendium of LuoPan is incomplete without the explanation as to where does the YinYang of the 24 mountains of the SanYuan LuoPan originated. We take for granted that it is always there in that fashion. How the PurpleWhite stars fly are all depends on its YinYang. That is already inaccurate. The Chinese source has more details.

One common source is from the Shen's Classic stipulates that all the Yang stems are Heaven numbers for example, HeTu heavenly number 1 takes Ren water Qi and therefore Yang in nature. Earthly 6 takes Gui water Qi and therefore Yin by nature. By the same token, Yin stems are Earth numbers and assigned Yin nature.

Therefore, Jia Bing Geng Xin are all Heavenly Numbers Odd Yang in nature.
Yi Ding Xin Gui are all Earthly Numbers Even Yin in nature.

The same classic stipulates that all the Ordinal Trigrams namely Xun, Qian, Kun and Gen are all Yang in nature. The principle is annexed to the LoShu. Within the LoShu, there are HeTu. The ordinals take the following sequence:

Qian (6) and 1-6 HeTu water, 1+6=7, Odd number Yang nature.
Xun (4) and 9-4 HeTu metal, 9+4=13, Odd number Yang nature.
Kun (2) and 7-2 HeTu fire, 7+2=9, Odd number Yang nature.
Gen (8) and 3-8 HeTu wood, 3+8=11, Odd number Yang nature.

The branches are classify under the following groups:

The stable, Yin Si Shen Hai are the 4 beginning of every season. Their main Qi are respectively, Jia Bing Geng and Ren, the sub Qi are respectively Bing Geng Ren Jia with Wu in all the stables. These are all Yang stems. When each of the main Qi and sub Qi added up for each stables, it does not form combination of 10. Therefore they are Yang in nature.

The cardinals, Mao Wu You Zi are the middle of every season. Their main Qi are Yi Ding Xin and Gui respectively. All Yin stems. They forms combination of 10. Therefore they are Yin in nature.

The graveyards, Chen Wei Xu Chou are the end of every season. Their main Qi are either Wu or Ji earth. However their sub Qi are all Yin stems and therefore by virtue the graveyards are Yin in nature for its sub Qi are combination of 10 respectively.

Such is believed to have been the reasons behind the YinYang classification for the 24 mountain in the SanYuan Luopan. in reality, if you believe this is the true reason, your SanYuan applications are incomplete.

Fact, YinYang does not stem from pure numerical permutations. They are the reflections of Heaven Man and Earth. Knowing thus you will understand what a SanYuan LuoPan is designed to measure. Without a throughout understanding of such, all the other Hexagram plates are nothing more then pure decorations.

THE ASTRONOMY OF XKDG

Some articles that we have written have invited many feedbacks. One notable response is as the followings: -

“…Out of all systems of Chinese metaphysics that I have seen and tried so far, this XKDG is the one I am most convinced that it is nothing but a useless superstition, no substance at all in it. The system itself had too much of an artificial feel to me. And when it put it to some test on a few thousand data, I couldn't find even the slightest indication that there is any truth in it… Danny VdB”

There is very little written on this subject in the English medium. However, whatever that is written in the Chinese medium is ought to have been taken with a pinch of salt as these are only personal opinion of the writer. The only single source is from the original classic of this matter called DiLi BianZheng (DLBZ) or nicknamed, Earth Study Discern Truth of which of which Zeng YongXin has given an excellent rendition to it as a verbatim translation without commentary.

DLBZ is a compilation of commentaries of the 4 classics of FengShui literatures by the late Grandmaster Jiang DaHong (JDH) and his disciple. He is well known of the followings: -

1. Heaven Will shall not be disclosed, therefore he is lip tied.
2. Parted with 6 known disciples, each been endowed with a treasure from him such as, one was given his LuoPan, one with his written book, another with verbal instruction and so on so forth.
3. None of his disciple has a complete transmission of knowledge.
4. Among his disciples, Grandmaster Zang ZhongShan was claimed to have stood out to be the most accomplished XuanKong masters.

A close inspection on these, it may seem that: -

1. JDH will never disclose what he knew.
2. Even his LuoPan has no XKDG rings.
3. All that is said and practice as prescribed in books are “new” inventions with many unresolved “controversies”.

Does it mean to say that XKDG is just another hoax?

XKDG, liked many others is just a name. If one doesn’t like to call it XKDG, just call it by another name such as DiLi DaGua or alike. Likewise, XuanKong is only a subset of SanYuan. Search within SanYuan, one is able to distill out the significant of the SanYuan DiLi principles, which is surprisingly an extension of SanHe.

Perhaps, there is truth that the macro view of DaGua is in the principles of the Eight Mansions yet the roots are in the Astronomy. Why on earth are the QianKun does not belong to any of the 12 Zodiac palaces as shown in the above diagram?

Clue is given and Happy Hunting!
Oh my God!

Flying Star is at the bottom of the “food chain”!  Joke aside; let us contemplate a little…

During the Big Sister era, 8 Mansions was the known basic of the basic FengShui taught in kindergarten. In those days, it was the easiest  method. So simple that practitioners graduated to advice couples of different Gua to sleep separately. 8 Mansions were actually at the bottom of the “food chain”.

Not satisfied, they opted to primary level – Flying Star. Those days, Hoo-Ha of period 8 was as staggering as the Y2K. Some Chinese literati grandmasters started off very much earlier in the 70’s HongKong where huge classes were organized.

Period 8 passed by and NOTHING happened. So, FlyingStar must have been a flaw! They enrolled into LiuFa. Tan’s School is not the one and only. Read our FengShui history. LiuFa is still out of bound reserved to the elitist Daoist cult.

Then, some opted to do “A” level instead. Entry into University of FengShui takes up 2 routes, Pre-U Matriculation  - XKDG and “A” level - SanYuan LongMen BaJu LMBDJ. Surprising, it had never crossed their mind is that - XKDG is actually kindergarten stuff - the so called 8 Mansions!

What???

SanYuan is NOT XuanKong. XuanKong is only a very small subset, thus it is the most confused system among the arts of SanYuan. Cloaked in secrecy, a complete system must contain prediction, application and activation. Strangely, XuanKong that we knew of today, is almost a standalone system with different and conflicting fundamentals.

SanYuan is the continuation of SanHe. The most valuable part of SanYuan is in its application of water method.
On and off there will be mysterious standalone method in the market. While XieZi is almost forgotten, another emerged in the light of the revival of LianShan GuiChang Gua 连山归藏卦. Can we call it by another name such as SanYuan DaGua?

ABOUT SANHE...

A new English source on water method is now available, thanks to the painstaking effort of Master Hung HC. This book is by far, quite a complete genre of SanHe water method. Within it encompasses the 2 well known antagonistic camps of SanHe. One originated from the typical YangGong approach of 12 phases water method while the other the FanGua or Flipping Trigram, which was believed to have been in existence pre-dating YangGong himself.

Reading HHC’s lucid rendition of such heavy loaded classics with some strokes of humour, clearly justify the author’s ability in a self-confessed style of a YangGong convert.  This very book may even be a revival of interest in SanHe methodology.

It is whimsical to note that the ideation of GuTuo and CheYing, both monks, are illiterate and yet they are the masters of SanHe. It must be truly the work of hidden hands such as fairies with the collective of authors that we, today learnt about the Assitant Star Water Method and the 4 Major Water Mouths. Literati FengShui master like Zhao JiuFeng refined CheYing’s work further into a compendium of SanHe, called Earthly Principles 5 Verses. This classic laid the foundation for the Water Dragon method popularized by our modern writers liked Big Sister and a famous Grandmaster.

Yet no known author expanded on GuTuo’s work, leaving RuDiYan as the most “corrupted” classic with many later days addition with no citation whatsoever. Even HHC admitted that he has no idea where the sequence of the stars in the transformation comes about.

With the passing of the YangGong Old Method Grandmaster Li at the ripe age of 100, some secret techniques of the YangGong School may have lost. Yet, HHC believes that the essence is preserved within another SanHe method by Ye JiuShen, called whatsoever name water method, published almost the same time with CheYing’s book. Being whatsoever, HHC took the liberty to call it Early and Later Heaven water method but it has nothing to do with Dragon Gate 8 Formations or QianKun National Treasure water methods.

Ye JiuShen took a “rocket-science” of his days approach in deploying 4 major water mouths where the Later Heaven components are similar to CheYing’s approach but the Early Heaven components are mind-boggling. So archaic is this Early Heaven that later day author dropped it altogether and named it simply as Later Heaven Water Method.

It is a good read...

Picture
THE SANHE EARTH PLATE

The common SanHe approach in utilizing the 3 rings namely: -

1. Earth Ring – utilized to establish facing
2. Human Ring – utilized to evaluate embrace
3. Heaven Ring – utilized to evaluate water

Are rather incomplete or to a certain degree, inaccurate as in accordance to the 3 classics of YangGong.

The common understanding is to use the Earth Ring to establish sitting based on the concept of Pure Yin Pure Yang. This concept is commonly understood as “a Yang incoming dragon must match Yang water establishing a Yang Facing”. How to measure the Yang incoming dragon?

Landform wise, the classics say, “The Dragon has come a thousand miles, but look only at the EIGHT FEET arriving at the Head”. The term “feet” in Chinese is also means “ruler”. Here is where the common interpretations go so wrong, as in 8 feet means “distance of 8 feet”.

Assuming that the “distance of 8 feet” is correct, the 24 Earth Ring is used to determine its YinYang. The next obvious question is where does these YinYang originated? Beforehand, one must understand that there is such thing as the followings: -

1. The mutual relation between the opposite Trigram within the Early Heaven sequence. So for example, Qian and Kun mutually unobstructed Qi. Because Qian is Yang, therefore Kun is also Yang.
2. While Qian is Yang, Qian receives Jia, Kun receives Yi, so both Jia and Yi are also Yang. This is called the rule of NaJia (another mind boggling concept reserved for other discussion).

As a result, the Earth Ring has inconsistent YinYang Mountains, not because they are mistakenly assumed to be based on Pure Yin Pure Yang, but they are assigned based on the concepts of Early Heaven Gua and NaJia.

In application, a Qian incoming Dragon is Yang warranted to be matched with a Yang Facing. Subsequently, if one look at the Earth ring which is also called 24 Mountains Correct Needle because it follows the magnetic “North”, only the sitting Branch mountains match its facing Branch mountains in accordance to Pure Yin Pure Yang principle while the other stems and trigrams are mismatched. Contradictions arise when for apparently no concrete reasons, it is forbidden to actually use the sitting Branch mountains for fear that: -

1. Qi is overly strong.
2. Branch Facing would risk being afflicted by annual TaiSui, PoSui and SanSha.

With such, how do we achieve the concept of Pure Yin Pure Yang by means of “a Yang incoming dragon must match Yang water establishing a Yang Facing”? Furthermore, this very novel idea contradicts one of the most fundamental indisputable doctrine, how can pure Yang or pure Yin ever grow ShengQi? As for the validity of SanHe method based on pure Yin pure Yang, your guess is better then mine…

Picture
SANHE HEAVEN PLATE

Pure Yin Pure Yang continues…

Assuming that the sitting mountain is set against the incoming dragon, SanHe school people will establish facing to match outgoing water. SaHe concerns about outgoing water. By establishing facing, water is exiting correctly at the inauspicious sector based another approach called Later Heaven Water Formula and the remains are good Qi. Among the classics, only RuDiYan suggested that water shall exits at the auspicious sector instead.

Later Heaven Water Formula stipulates the use of Heaven Ring, whereby it is another set of 24 mountain rings offset by 7.5 degree, presumably measuring the True North, another invention by YangGong. It is called Heaven because it is used to evaluate water base on the two mountains approach, sometimes called double mountain or ShuangShan. Water is the gifts of Heaven. Only 12 pairs of mountain are in used. The same water formula also stipulates the doctrine of 12 growth phases, which we will not discuss here, to evaluate the 12 pairs of Double Mountain, classifying them auspicious or otherwise.

Conforming to Pure Yin Pure Yang, dragon matching sitting, facing matching water principles are derived from here. All those YiGua ChunQing or One Singular Pure Gua formations are also borrowed from here. Pure Gua here means, Pure Yin and Pure Yang. By the same token, a Yang Facing must match a Yang water exit or ingress and this call for the Heaven Plate to have its own YinYang. By the same token, it borrows from the Earth Ring’s YinYang, believing that such is in compliance to Pure Yin Pure Yang and this is where it has gone so very wrong!

By extension, Earth Principles 5 Verses stipulates YinYang flow will determine the manner in which 12 growth phases are assigned to the 12 double mountains thus rendered the YinYang of Heaven Plate not applicable. Thus the YinYang of Heaven plate refers to the Yin or Yang flow and not the YinYang double mountains. Onegrandmaster of GanZhou often uses this classic example to mock inexperience master who had attempted to design their own LuoPan. He advocated that Heaven Plate has no YinYang and this is also where it has gone so very wrong!

In summary the Two Mountains are in reference to the Heaven Plate. Together with the Earth Plate, it completes the SanHe LuoPan according to the orthodox YangGong School. By the same token, establishing sitting is based on magnetic north while establishing facing is based on true north. Some years ago, the similar question has raised heated arguments among “egg heads” resulted in this article, click HERE. Thus, Yang Facing matching Yang water,  the sacred Pure Yin Pure Yang is conformed. This is absolutely crap!

Picture
SANHE HUMAN PLATE

As Pure Yin Pure Yang is concerned, nothing is ever mentioned about embrace. Out of the 5 verses of Dragon, Embrace, Mountain, Spot and Water, only 3 items are of the concerns. If we assumed that RuDiYan is the forerunner of SanHe, way back before the Song Dynasty predated YangGong himself, something is very wrong when among the scripts, it mentioned that theuse of the 28 asterisms as in accordance to Urging Officer, ChuiGuan, the only classics that has survived from being adulterated because it really means nonsense consumed raw and credited to LaiBuYi who lives in the Song era. He is also the inventor of this so called Human Ring.

Known also as seam needle, apparently seaming the Heaven ring to the Earth ring, it is based on the Polaris north. This ring is used extensively to govern human behavior and opportunities thus it is used to evaluate embraces with response to the spot. Historically speaking it is also known as the outer Heaven Plate.

The LuoPan is also a tool to measure the Lateral. In this case, the fixed star of the 28 asterisms known as the lunar station is narrowed down to each singular degree representing each day. Regrouped as 60 expended and contraction dragons and be matched with another set of 24 mountains called outer Heaven Plate. Consistent with RuDiYan, this ring is annexed to theprinciple of “as above, so below”, an extension of Pure Yin Pure Yang. Naturally, below the asterisms, there is a set of corresponding mountains, resulted from the gravitational pull of these asterisms and the valleys are the rivers. 9 Stars school or JuiXing Pai’s flipping trigram methods or FanGua (where its offspring of 5 Ghost Carry Treasure)are born within this broad principle.

Must the Human Ring have YinYang? For completeness, the same Earth Ring YinYang is also applied to the Human Ring and that is where it has gone so very wrong. Objectively, Human Ring has no YinYang is also incomplete. Very little has been written about this Ring. Some go to an extend to market it as another FengShui secret as YuHanJing, apparently the only book which YangGong took from the imperial library via escaping later to be handed down to his grandchildren and now inherited by another GanZhou lineage called the Lineage of YangJiuPing for a very expansive fee. YangGong being a monk has offspring is a fact needed validation. Even so, none of his other works referred to this very ring. So, again, your guess is better than mine.

The entire collections of this article called The SanHe “Lord of The Rings are in fact, contents of some very expansive FengShui life courses. The beauty of it is it can be summarized in 3 A4 pages with font 12 now available for Free. Yet, in reality, it can be applied and it is SanHe but not the true method. Knowing this, one will understand what are taught in the west under the pretext of water methods. In reality it is just purely academic. One way to find out its authenticity is to check the so called “inherited” LuoPan. If it is not marked and corrected accordingly, it is as good as some old antics. One GanZhou grandmaster has a point, when he said, “LuoPan post Qing Dynasty are all rubbish”.

A gentleman poured over his query as the followings: -

“…While trying to compare these two methods one may face the contradictions. In BaLu HuangQuan methodology it is said that it is disastrous to have for instance outgoing water at DING or GENG while facing KUN, in the same time the FuXing ShuiFa appoints Po Jun Star at DING while facing KUN and it is said that outgoing water in this case is auspicious. How would you explain this…”

I presumed this is a problem when the formula is taught in piecemeal. Upon looking into the query itself, 2 methods stem out. Firstly we had the so-called eight roads of destruction (8RD) (Ba Lu Huang Quan), an offset of the principle SanHe Four Major Water Mouths. Lastly, the Assistant Star Water Method (ASWM) (Fu Xing Shui Fa), that stem out from the Assigning the Dragon (Water) based on Gua Transformation coupled with the 3 Auspicious, 6 Elegances (3A6E) are the basis of as above, so below principle, of assigning the 24 heavenly star unto the 24 mountains. These are 2 entirely different method from 2 entirely different school of taught within the SanHe fraternity.

The Old School, Grand Master Yang Jun Song, also called YangGong Gu Fa, propagated the Four Major Water Mouth (4MW) techniques as a complete system based on the solar inclination affecting the movements of earth and water ways. This is the basis that the Earth Ring and the Heaven Ring were included in deploying such methodology. Later variation and simplification on this method into 8RD, proven to be a fallacy.

For instance, facing Kun with outgoing water mouth at Ding and Geng. A wood frame structure with Birth at Qian, Prosperous at Jia and Grave at Ding. Taking reverse, we had facing Kun as facing Death. A violation of 4MW. However, if outgoing water mouth at Kun (Repose), with facing at Ding (Death) or Geng (weakening), one will notice that Facing Geng with water exiting at Kun does not violate the 4MW. Such reverse engineering proves that the 8RD deemed to have been a fallacy.

The New School, Ge Fa, Grand Master Lai Bu Yi, also called YangGong Xin Fa, propagated that the asterism has a great influence to the land formation and watercourses. This became the basis of as above the sky, so below the landforms are the manifestation of the stars. An additional ring called the Human Ring was in paced to measure the embrace. Saying thus, the assignment to stellar constellations were grouped into star streams and assigned to the 24 mountains based on these streams of star. Notably the terms 3 auspicious were born, coupled with the related Najia, thus derived the 6 elegances. With this concept, encapsulated unto the Gua transformation, there derived what is known as the (minor) wandering 8 Tri-grams, or Di Mu Fan Gua Jiu Xing Fa, used to measure stars within the embrace or Ge Long Fa. A complementary system employing the same concepts were deployed for water method that start from the assistant star and was called Assistant Star Water Method.

No doubt, some claimed that the new school has its fallacy, for example, we know that the universe is ever expending and the positions of these stars are not static. Therefore, the theoretical framework based on as above, so below does not hold the test of time and probably it is a forced method deploy by Bazi expert to measure the earth.

Coming back to the query and let say, sitting Gen and facing Kun with water outgoing in Ding and Geng. In Najia, Dui received Ding and Zhen received Geng, Dui is Por Jun and Geng is Lien Zheng. Water outgoing at these positions are considered auspicious.

On this basis, we note that there is a contradiction between the findings using 4MW and ASWM, both SanHe methodologies, for reasons that the basic principles are indeed different. Choosing between the 2 methods, I may only recommend the use of 4MW to establish a spot in relative to ASWM to gauge the general auspiciousness of the entire site in question.

左行为阳,子丑至戌亥。
右行为阴,午巳至申未。
雌与雄,交会合玄空,
雄与雌,玄空卦内寻。

Translation (YangGong GuFa): -

Left Turning is Yang, Zi – Chou and Xu – Hai.
Right Turning is Yin, Wu – Si and Shen – Wei.
Female and Male to marry in XuanKong;
Male and Female to find in XuanKong Gua.

Commentary: -

The classics state that 一生二兮二生三,三生萬物是玄關, in the beginning there is nothing, 1 begets 2, 2 begets 3, 3 begets the myriad things. TaiXu 太虛 – is where the great emptiness is. TaiYi 太一 is where the genesis begin. TaiQi 太極 is where duality triumphs and finally TaiXuan 太玄 is where the myriad things manifested. These TaiXu 太虛, TaiYi 太一, TaiQi 太極, TaiXuan 太玄 are classics on their own rights and yet the nature of duality TaiQi 太極 is used to first discern YinYang.

ZhangShu states: -

土者,气之母,有土斯有气。气者,水之母,有气斯有水。

Earth is the mother of Qi, have earth will have Qi. Qi is the mother of water, have Qi will have water. Therefore when Qi moves water moves. When Qi halt, water coagulates. Since earth follows water, incoming dragon is considered Yang and outgoing water mouth is considered Yin. This is known as Male and Female 雄雌.

In order to match the correct male to the correct female, one must be able to first discern where Qi flows. Here it denotes left turning as Yang meaning the rivers flow from left to right crossing bright hall dictates a Yang formation. It must therefore receive a Yang incoming Qi thus conforming Pure Yin, pure Yang  纯阴纯阳 principles – the cornerstone of all SanHe theories.

However the classics state: -

純陽不生,純陰不長。陰陽交錯,萬物生之。

Pure Yang don’t give birth, pure Yin don’t grow. YinYang copulate give birth to the myriad things. The copulation takes place in XuanKong and that can only happen when the real water mouth is formed.

QNAY furthers elaborate: -

金龙一经一纬义不同,动不动,只待高人施妙用。

Golden Dragon latitude and longitude although originates from different meanings, moves or not depends on the master to use. It means to say, golden dragons are all the water mouths. When 2 rivers conjoin, it forms a water mouth. When the said water mouth belongs to the same incoming dragon, there is where copulation takes place in XuanKong. The Yang dragon takes clockwise and the Yin water dragon takes anticlockwise and they meet in XuanKong. This is where copulation takes place -陰陽交錯,萬物生之。To discern the male and female, it is where such right/left turning is called XuanKong Gua. Example, Jia Dragon matching its wife Gui being one structure of Zhen (XuanKong Gua) and so forth.

Yang is from Zi Gui to Hai Ren,
Yin is from Wu Ding to Si Bing,
From Zi arrived at Ren, from Wu arrived at Bing,
Every road has Yang, every road has Yin,
Everyone must understand – Discern!

To establish Left as Yang, right as Yin,
In Left there has Yang and Right there has also (Period Luck),
Left Right also has (Period Luck),
East West Period Luck,
Front Back Period Luck,
North South all cannot determine CiXiong copulation – Discern!

There is death method,
XuanKong old comments –
Zi Chou arriving Xu Hai – left revolve is Yang,
Wu arriving in Shen Wei – right revolve is Yin,
Absurd!

Commentaries: -

The SanYuan perspectives differ. It does not recognised Left turning as Yang and Right turning as Yin. It attempt to explain that this passage talks about XuanKong Period Luck elements. From Zi to Ren, Wu to Bing comprises of both Yin and Yang period luck. If one takes the river East, West and parent Gua’s YinYang, there will not be any conclusion to establish CiXiong. There is an implication that CiXiong can only be achieved if one understand the direct and indirect spirit principles of Real Yin, real Yang  真阴真阳, but it was not mentioned in this chapter.

CASE STUDY - SETIAWALK AND WATER WATER EVERYWHERE

Drop by at Setiawalk recently for a FengShui audit. I cannot keep my eye away from the lush landscape with extensive use of water elements. Indeed coincident to the very notion of water-water everywhere. There are more to meet the eye but I would just disclose a little.

The center boulevard is high with F&B and very happening especially during the evening where pubs come alive and the opposite is observed for the shops facing outward, almost starving. The vibrant side is located along the Yin side of the man-made river and the Yang side takes a longer to peak.

Indeed the design of the river has YinYang almost unseen for an untrained eye. Some of the practitioners I brought along were surprised as all they see was water features and lush landscapes. They had missed the real ingredients besides saying, “Ah… the river is meandering, so it is sentimental water”. Those fans of HHC  should use this life example for their trainings based on his book on SanHe water formula. I must admit it is purely land form befitting into the context of both SanHe and SanYuan methodology. Wonder if it is the work of “JayWhy”?

While you don’t have to do much on each of the F&B outlets but to decide on the location of the main door, the office lots were a little disappointing with many vacant lots desperately to be filled up. Upon visiting, the answer is obvious. The design has not taken FengShui into consideration. Maybe the master’s work does not include such.

POSTSCRIPT - CONTRADICTING YANGGONG METHOD

I had a brief discussion with some YangGong practitioner on this case. He pointed out that the greater formation is wood but the internal formation is metal. Water exiting in Shen being the prosperity palace of metal frame. True enough, the vibrancy of the area could not last.

This shows that both SanHe and SanYuan methods have to conform to YangGong method although someone else may think otherwise.
Picture
BASTARDIZING YANGGONG PRACTITIONER

SanHe FengShui is not necessary Grandmaster Yang Method. One book by HHC actually summarized the method available in the SanHe stream and it is a testimonial that how corrupt the modern day SanHe has became. There is a great distinction between YangGong Fa and SanHe Fa.

SanHe emphasis on Structure to establish Facing of the tomb or property is not wrong. Water exit determines the Structure and in return establishes the facing of the tomb or property. In this manner, the incoming dragon has been accounted for. The opposite of water exit is the incoming dragon and the opposite of facing is the sitting. Therefore, Dragon determines Sitting and Water determines Facing. It works in pair and it is the basis of SanYuan XuanKong DaGua. Bastardizing SanHe will not make a SanYuan practitioner any greater as they are the different faces of the same coin.

Qi originated from the 8 locations, not knowing these the vessels are emptied. Mao mountain doesn't mean wood element only. Each mountain has its own 5 elements. Beyond the earth plate, you will find the 72 Earth Penetrating Dragon measuring Earth Qi. SanHe proponent uses it to measure incoming Qi or Dragon. If the 72 dragon element matches the water exit, it is an auspicious site. In theory one has to climb mountains to measure such and it is extremely troublesome to use SanHe for property which is unfortunately a terrible misconception. Bastardizing SanHe on such account will only show how weak a person's understanding of landform.

Another misconception of the 72 Dragons are the jewel line. It is believed that only 4 specific stems JiaZi are ShengQi. The YiJing proponent comes with its own set of explanation and come to term with Turtle Shell Emptiness while the YangGong proponent explained that such comes from the use of 240 dragons. It is about the balanced of Heaven and Earth Qi. If ever someone said, earth Qi is only for graveyard FengShui and Heaven Qi for properties, it is confirmed, he knew nuts about FengShui. Even SanYuan has its own set of Heaven, Man and Earth Qi considerations.

A person's BaZi is the middle heaven that are able to unlock the effectiveness of the jewel. Most SanHe classics differ in terms of YinYang and the 24 Mountains. Without the oral secret, one cannot decipher the difference between fire pit and jewel. If your YinYang is not right, jewel can turn to fire pits and these are the apparent danger of becoming a half cooked SanHe or SanYuan master. There is really nothing wrong of using BaZi to unlock the potential in FengShui.

The most important thing in Yang Property FengShui is not to tap auspicious air flows. There is no such thing as auspicious air flows. SanHe rides on Qi in where it begins and SanYuan receive Qi in where it ends. Without knowing such, please shut up and go back to school to learn your fundamentals.

In summary there is nothing wrong with SanHe or SanYuan and if you understand both they are all YangGong method. The problem is with the applications. There is really no point of belittling others to make oneself looks great. It is never the spirit of the mysterious school of Chinese metaphysics.

FAULTY CURE BY A YANGGONG PRACTITIONER?

One case study in question is about a Factory's FengShui located at the southern bank of the Klang river with its water mouth miles away towards the WestPort. This factory was audited by a Female YangGong trained practitioner apparently from the GanZhou lineage.

Her findings are consistent to the YangGong's approach. The external formation suits Fire or Wood frame. However, the formation of the factory with its office block takes a metal structure instead. Therefore water exiting Prosperous would see that the factory would not able to prosper in a long run. It correspond well with the finding of YangGong method.

The practitioner decided to restructure the property by establishing Fire Frame as such is accordance to the owner's BaZi, lacking Fire element. This remedy is also not wrong.

Now since everything is in accordance to YangGong method, why the results are not seen? From a YangGong perspective, there are other factors one in particular, speed in manifestation. It is a subject that hardly been disclosed among the lineage itself. The outsiders had no clue whatsoever.

It is not compulsory to restructure the property's formation without first establishing the YinYang components. As at the moment, its YinYang is imbalance and no matter what has been done, it takes longer for its positive effect to manifest. There is really no problem with the method. The problem is with the application itself. So, please don't blame the floor of being so hard, if you cannot shit due to constipation - Chinese Proverb.

QINGNANAOYOU - NAJIA 纳甲 VERSUS NAYIN納音

青囊奥语

明玄空,
只在五行中,
知此法,
不须寻纳甲。

Translation: -

Understand XuanKong, it is all in the 5 elements,
know this method no need to seek NaJia.

Commentaries: -

NaJia 纳甲 means receiving stem element out of the Gua. It is an idea borrowed from WenWang 文王卦. Originally derived from the observation of the waxing and waning of the moon, it is incorporated in reading the Yao lines of the Gua 卦. Later to be incorporated into FengShui and as a result, the 24 mountains are assigned with various NaJia elements 纳甲五行 and no longer depends on the directional elements. It is also a method whereby the YinYang of the 24 mountains earth plate is assigned. Based on the method prescribed in RuDiYan 入地眼 or entering Earth Eye Classics, this YinYang of the 24 mountains earth plate is employ to form pure Yin, pure Yang  纯阴纯阳 formations such as assistant star water method or FuXin ShuiFa 辅星水法.
Picture
NaYin 納音 means receiving elements out of the stem-branch. The SanHe School deemed the 24 mountain’s Zhen WuXing 正五行 is insufficient. YangGong created the 72 Dragon ring just outside of the earth plate to address such and it is well documented in Heaven Jade Classics 天玉经.  As a result a single mountain can be further divided into various NaYin WuXing 納音五行. The orthodox YangGong School will read the 5 elements as NaYin 5 elements 納音五行. So, knowing such one can safely discard NaJia, implying also the YinYang of the 24 mountains earth plate.
Picture
Close inspection revealed that NaJia originally only applied on Stem and not Branches in the WenWang 文王 method. Subsequently when it is force fitted into FengShui, the branches are applied. This is where it has gone so terribly wrong. WenWang NaJia 文王纳甲 revealed that all Yang Gua matches Yang stem. It is consistent with pure Yin, pure Yang  纯阴纯阳 principle. However, with the branches - Qian Early Heaven is in Li, Qian also NaRen therefore Li NaRen, whereas Kun Early Heaven is in Kan, Kun also Na Gui therefore Kan Na Gui. How could Kan (Yang) takes Gui (Yin) and Li (Yin) takes Ren (Yang)?
九星五行大卦之法,

9 Star 5 Elements DaGua method,
Just understand XuanKong 2 words meaning,
Then weaken prosper, growth, death, clearly see, altogether grasp among,

Kun NaYi,
Xun NaXin,
Geng NaBing,
Dui NaDing,
Zhen NaGeng,
Li NaRen,
Kan NaGui are Heaven Father Earth Mother,
YiXing who created Gua model!

Commentary: -

In XKDG, Jiang DaHung interpreted 5 elements as XuanKong Elements 玄空五行. Therefore, one does not have to use Yao change 抽爻換象 to achieve YiGua ChunQing 一卦純清. Yao change 抽爻換象 is NaJia 纳甲.By the same token XKDG does not use NaYin 納音 also. There are XK School out there that subscribed XKDG to NaYin and it is terribly wrong. JDH also imply the error to YiXing, the astrological monk.

Musing - Plain Rubbish Version of XKDG
Yes, you read it right! There are plenty of plain rubbish versions of XKDG available in the market. If you search the net, you will be greeted with some form of rosy chart claiming to be the complete course of XKDG. Yet, the rosy charts like the one attached are nothing close to the truth. It only represents the current level of Master Practitioners out there in the market of English speaking community. I can’t blame them as it is a highly guarded secret among the real practitioners.

Using XKDG together with QMDJ is another sugar coated scheme that is highly marketed these days. It is made popular by the late Zheng ZiNan (ZZN) coined with a mouthful - SanYuan DiLi XianTian XuanKong DaGua QiMen DunJia, in the late 1970s. All the sudden, you see fresh young Master Practitioners having claimed to have a piece of ZZN now offering such to the masses. If truly QMDJ is about asking favor from the Dieties, there is always a cheaper version to seek out consultation from the temple medium…

Please get real!

Points in mind – SanHe School Modern Fallacy

Five years ago, there was a query stating that since 4 major water mouth and assistant star water method are both SanHe, what happened if they contradicted each other? Which take precedent?

Reviewing back my writing then, I put the blames on different schools, different interpretations. In fact, it is actually different part of the same “elephant” as viewed by the “blind men”, in accordance to YangGong true method. It may also be the problem of categorization. First, one has to discern that not everything to do with YangGong method is SanHe.

SanHe, loosely translated as 3 combinations have many interpretations from the obvious Dragon, Embrace and Facing to the Three Stooges, you watch in TV. What this school strength is that the believed of having the 3 positions fortified, any collapse of one portion, 2 of the others will able to hold the fort. In order to seamlessly combine the three, a Yang incoming dragon must match Yang water establishing a Yang Facing. This is believed to be what is known as Pure Yin Pure Yang.

This so called Pure Yin Pure Yang forms the basis of assistant star water method or FuXing ShuiFa, originated from Entering Earth Eye, Ru DiYan (入地眼) by GuTuo (辜托). Therefore, it is assumed to have been a very old method of SanHe since it is believed that GuTuo is a monk lived in the Zhou Dynasty. At that time, the Heaven’s Plate of the SanHe LuoPan is unheard of. On such account and unlike modern application, FuXing ShuiFa is never measured using the Heaven’s Plate.

Qing Dynasty witnessed the following methods: -

1. 4 Major Water Mouths
2. Later Heaven Method
3. Earthly Principle 5 Verses
4. QianKun National Treasure

These methods were categorized under SanHe and were claimed to have been YangGong’s method, employing the Heaven’s Plate. Heaven Plate is a 24 mountains ring correcting the “original” Earth Plate to mark the True North based on the Sun path for measuring of Water.

Even within these methods, there are sheer inconsistencies, often mocked around by pure YangGong practitioners such as LiDingXin. YangGong is believed to have been the forefather of FengShui lived in the Tang Dynasty.

Strangely, the copy of Ru DiYan (入地眼) by GuTuo (辜托) as it is available today contain text which mock the usage of the Heaven’s Plate while the 3 YangGong classics of Green Satchel Profound Saying, Heavenly Jade Classic and Jade Ruler Classic, clearly dispel the inconsistency of flipping Gua method or FanGua as sheer divination without valid compliance to GuoPu’s Burial Classic therefore, not genuine FengShui.

Furthermore with the last chapter of Ru DiYan (入地眼) dedicated to 8 Mansions, it is even glaring that this very classic has been adulterated beyond recognition, most likely during the Qing Dynasty. GuTuo (辜托) may even have been a monk living in the Sung or Ming Dynasty instead. Even one chapter dedicated to evaluation of the embrace dedicated to Lai BuYi's urging officer scroll. This is one classic example of the "Death becomes Alive" and the "Living becomes Deceased".

Subsequent works revealed that assistant star water method or FuXing ShuiFa is further adulterated to include piecemeal methods such as Five Ghost Carry Treasure, 8 Mansion Five Ghost methods, FlyingStar, Water Dragon Classics and so forth with some part of it blended into SanYuan and XuanKong as well. Not surprising if you can find special RuDiYan LuoPan these days.

A genuine YangGong method discerns all these and therefore cannot be classified as a pure SanHe school -

Note this FACT!

EIGHT KILLING FORCES 八煞 - THE VARIANTS

7/24/2014

Picture
Eight Killing 八煞 as the name suggests is a standard textbook entry level for FengShui practitioners. Derived from SanHe School, it is a watered down version of YangGong method. It comes in many forms such as: -

Sitting Mountain 8 Killing - 坐山八煞
8 Killing Yellow Stream - 八煞黄泉

However, one SanYuan School - QianKun GuoBao/LongMen BaDaJu 龍門八大局 / 乾坤國寶 also incorporated the same into their techniques. It is extremely strange that as a SanYuan version require to use a SanHe method unless within SanYuan there is SanHe and such secret has been interwoven so deeply that it requires a genuine master to enlighten?

Saying so, there is also a SanYuan version of 8 Killing forces called: -

Sitting Mountain Robbery Killing - 坐山劫煞

Picture
Sitting Mountain 8 Killing - 坐山八煞

坎龙(狗)坤兔震山猴,
巽鸡乾马兑蛇头。
艮虎离猪为八煞,
宅墓逢之一齐休。

Translation:

Kan Dragon Kun Rabbit Zhen Mountain Monkey. Xun Chicken Qian Horse Dui Snake Head. Gen Tiger Li Pig are 8 Killer. House Grave together perish.

Commentary: -

The keyword is sitting mountain, meaning how your building sits. Genuine YangGong people will measure the Seat instead of the Sit.

The original method is to first determine the incoming Qi based on the BaGua 8 directions and the sitting of the house or grave must not be located at the specific animal sign according to the 24 mountains, as in accordance to the above poem. Failing so bloodshed will manifest.

By the same token, if you are born in a specific year according to the animal sign as specify as above, your personalized Killing Force is the direction as mentioned. For example, a person born in Pig year will have his Killing Force in the Xun location. In 8 Mansion method, this Pig year born person must not live in a Gua 4 house. Gua 4 is Xun sitting house.

The alternative method as procured in QianKun GuoBao/LongMen BaDaJu 龍門八大局 / 乾坤國寶, is to use the sitting Gua of the house must not face Sha or Killing structure at the specific animal sign according to the 24 mountains, as in accordance to the above poem. Failing so bloodshed will manifest. This is known as the direct killing forces.

Whereas the indirect killing forces depend on the early and later heaven configuration of the sitting Gua of the house to determine the specific results of bloodshed or otherwise material lost.

Example, Kan house must not see ShaQi in the location of Dragon (Chen) and Dog (Xu). Early Heaven of Kan is Dui. Dui killing forces is Snake (Si). So if there is ShaQi at Si location - there will be bloodshed. Later Heaven of Kan is in Kun. Kun killing forces is Rabbit (Mao). So if there is ShaQi at Mao - there will be robbery and material lost.

Also note that there is a hidden Dog marked in red. Olden day master purposefully drop one or two of their techniques so that they will remain relevant and always better then their disciples.

8 Killing Yellow Stream - 八煞黄泉

庚丁坤上是黄泉,坤向庚丁不可言;
巽向忌行乙丙上,乙丙须防巽水先;
甲癸向上忧见艮,艮向须知甲癸嫌;
乾向辛壬行不得,辛壬水路怕当乾。

Translation:

Geng ding Kun up is Yellow Stream, Kun face Geng Ding cannot be said; Xun face avoid moving Yi Bing up. Yi Bing must protect Xun water first; Jia Gui face up see Gen, Gen face prelude Jia Gui suspiciously; Qian face Xin Ren move not get, Xin  Ren water flow afriad meeting Qian.

Commentary:

Sitting mountain deals with branch while Yellow Stream deals with Stem and Gua location. The caveat is there must be "Pulling Nose" Sha drawing Qi away from the Main Door. So the reference point is the House Facing or Door Facing.

Example, Kun facing must not have road or water flowing out at Geng or Ding mountains. Similarly, Geng/Ding facing must not have Kun water flowing outward.

Here, another contentious issue with diverting opinion is: -
  1. Measuring using the Heaven Plate as it is used in SanHe for measuring water.
  2. Measuring using only the Earth Plate as it is one method specify in the classic RuDiYan 入地眼 or entering Earth Eye Classics.

Strangely, RuDiYan 入地眼 has never advocated the use of Heaven Plate and it is believed that this classic predates YangGong and having roots in Huang ShiGong 黃石公.

For a genuine YangGong practitioner, they are less bother with this method.

Kan Gui stich snake Si Wu chicken; Ding You meet Yin Kun Hai Yi. Dragon Tiger meet goat Yi monkey robbery; one ox dragon position cannot place.

Commentary: -
This is a SanYuan version of 8 Killing Forces using the sitting as the reference point. Example property sits Gui cannot see broken structure at Shen, Wei and Xun mountain. Its origin remains illusive and some account to it having taken from the asterism.
Conclusion: -
Illustrated here are just some of the mainstream 8 Killing theories. There are countless other sub variants liked XuanKong DaGua Killing Forces and so forth. For the genuine practitioner, these are just end-users' techniques. All complete sets of SanHe or SanYuan methods had such being incorporated into their applications notably from the text Heaven Jade Classics -  天玉经.

QINGNANXU - FLYING STAR 玄空飛星 GOLDEN DRAGON

7/23/2014

Picture
先看金龙动不动,次察血脉认来龙。

Translation: -
First observe Golden Dragon stirring not stirring, next examine blood vein identify incoming dragon.

Commentaries: -
The XuanKong Flying Star 玄空飛星, will interpret these 2 liners as the way Flying Star 飛星, supposed to fly. Note that the meaning of Golden Dragon represents Qian sector. In the Later Heaven BaGua, Qian is assigned to the northwest and receive the element of Metal and in Chinese means 金. Qian is also related to Dragon 龙 based on the notion of Yao change. Together one must observe if the Golden Dragon 金 龙 moves or not. If the star take flight it must start from the Qian palace. In the event of a missing sector in Qian, the entire Flying Star 飛星 chart cannot work! It also means if there is a vertical missing sector in Qian, Flying Star 飛星 chart also cannot work. The reason being the LoShu 洛书 flight takes 3 dimensional along the 3 dimensional of the Later Heaven BaGua.
Picture
Perception of the BaGua: -
We are familiar with BaGua, LoShu 洛书 and the interaction of Qi in a 2 dimensional perspective. What happened when in fact Qi is 3 Dimensional? Stacking above one another? As a simple illustration (not true fact), these imagery can be well illustrated as a cube in horizontal and vertical interlocking sequence. That is where the path of right and left turning originates as oscillation. A single unit of BaGua can then be further expended to the 64 Gua. To the DaGua enthusiasts, how does one apply DaGua when we have no room to arrange the BaGua? Food for thought!

On another note, the TaiQi spot or the heavenly heart is deemed as important as it gels the rest of the “cubes” together. As the saying goes, when the heavenly heart activates, 9 palaces alter. Do we constantly need to activate it with the placement of fountain at the center?

Picture
LoShu in 3D: -
When we perceived Li, Qi and Xiang 里气象 as 3 Dimensional entities, our view will change entirely. The way we perceived LoShu 洛书 is no longer the 9 grids smack artificially against the floor plans, just liked most Flying Star method advocated by the commercial schools or books. We need to explode the Later Heaven BaGua cubes and  connect the flow as in accordance to the LoShu path in 3D, we noticed that Qi actually spirals up and down in a vortex of stacked arrangement through the medium of 3D space. Assuming when we say Flying Star, with stars that fly, it isn't that way in a 3D point of view, as liked a pin ball effect, the Qi vibrates and transform through a medium from one form to another. This is called WuYun 五運. That is one very reason why many Flying Star and Eight Mansions method does not bring consistent results, which stem from the right theory, wrong application. Yet, many continue to advocate it. Similarly so, if we learn ZiBai Jue 紫白诀 or the Purple White without knowing this very fundamental, can we actually put it into practice?

Picture
HeTu in 3D: -
The early Chinese  does not concern so much as to the sitting and facing of their homes. Their main concerns are the community. So, the EH is use to assist them in locating prosperous spots. It is all location, location and location.

EH BaGua is imagery, Xiang of the cosmos. To understand its attributes, EH Numerology is invented. This is another component called Li (method). So HeTu is derived to interpret the EH BaGua. HeTu is derived from the understanding of Qi, the 5 elements. As the saying goes, Heaven bestow, Earth receives, Qi originates from Heaven and settle underground as in the forms of mountain (Gen) and rivers (Dui). Such manifestation is called as above, so below. As above there are asterisms. As below there are mountains and rivers which we called Dragons. So, it is believed that the working mechanism of Qi must follow an order. This order is HeTu. So, Li, Qi and Xiang 里气象 are complete.

However, have we ever thought that HeTu is also in 3D?

GREEN SATCHEL PROFOUND SAYINGS - WHICH KUN REN YI?

Picture
QingNanAoYou 青囊奥语, is another text book of FengShui believed to have been written by YangGong and yet 2 apparent versions from 2 different schools of thought.
青囊奥语 (杨筠松著)

坤壬乙, 文曲从头出,
艮丙辛, 位位是廉貞,
巽庚癸, 俱是武曲位,
乾甲丁, 贪狼一路行。

Translation: QingNanAoYou (SanHe version)

Kun, Ren, Yi, WenQu appears from the head,
Gen, Bing, Xin, every position represent LianZheng,
Xun, Geng, Gui, everyone is WuQu location.
Qian, Jia, Ding, TangLang travelling along the same road.

Commentary:

The first version belongs to the SanHe school that stressed that: -

  1. Water (WenQu) Formation  consists of Kun, Ren and Yi , implying also Shen, Zi and Chen mountains.
  2. Fire (LianZhen) Formation consists of Gen, Bing and Xin, implying also Yin, Wu and Xu mountains.
  3.  Metal (WuQu) Formation  consists of Xun, Geng and Gui , implying also Si, You and Chou mountains.
  4. Wood (TangLang) Formation consists of Qian, Jia and Ding , implying also Hai, Mao and Wei mountains.

These verses form the basis of Double Mountains in the SanHe Heaven Plate.
青囊奥语 (地理辨正)

坤壬乙,巨门从头出;
艮丙辛,位位是破军;
巽辰亥,尽是武曲位;
甲癸申,贪狼一路行。

Translation (Terrence Chan): QingNanAoYou (SanYuan version)

Kun, Ren, Yi, JuMen appears from the head,
Gen, Bing, Xin, every position is PoJun,
Xun, Chen, Hai, all is WuQu positions.
Jia, Gui, Shen, TangLang same road travel.

Commentary:

The second version belongs to the SanYuan school that stressed that: -

  1. Kun, Ren, Yi, - XKDG Special Formation, JuMen Star 2 appears from the head,
  2. Gen, Bing, Xin, - XKDG Special Formation, every position is PoJun Star 7,
  3. Xun, Chen, Hai, - XKDG Special Formation, all is WuQu Star 6 positions.
  4.  Jia, Gui, Shen, - XKDG Special Formation, TangLang Star 1 same road travel.

Implying if these 3 XKDG structures are obtained, FengShui capacity will increased many folds.
In summary, classical texts are often distorted beyond recognition. YangGong did not write any of these classics. It was written by his students. Jiang DaHung commentaries on this classic is a sheer attempt to distort it further to his inclination and understanding. Often than not, he is labeled as a con-artiste instead. Yet, contemporary observation of masters from both schools showed tremendous results. What is your say?
