PENETRATING MOUNTAIN AND EARTH 穿山透地

​This is also sometimes called, Mountain Method  山法.

Penetrating Mountain 穿山, comprises of the word Penetration 穿 or sometimes also referring to as Penetrating Earth 透地.  Penetration is a verb meaning forcing a way into or through, in this case a Mountain or Earth. It deals with a force that are pushed through from beneath the earth as the unit measurement of Earth Qi 地氣.

​GuoPu’s Burial Classics state: - 

葬者，藏也，乘生气也。

To Bury, is to Conceal, Ride ShengQi this. (Read HERE for more)

In SanHe, 60 Earth Penetrating Dragon 透地龍 and 72 Penetrating Mountain Dragon 穿山龍 are to measure the incoming veins/ incoming dragon.

WATER METHOD 水法

It is a method to evaluate the quality of water. Water here means the exiting water denoted as the “Water Mouth” 水口. It is an assessment of the Water Mouth.

​Water method enable one to determine the Formation 局 of a given site through the following mantra (Read HERE for more).

1. Water Mouth 水口 determine Formation 局.
2. Formation 局 establish Facing.
3. Facing establish Sitting.

Water Method 水法 is independent from the Mountain Method  山法.

JIAZI DRAGON 甲子龍

SanHe measures Qi as JiaZi 甲子, totalled 30 pairs. Each pair take a unit of NaYin element 納音五行 (Detail read HERE). According to the Book of Burial, every direction has 5 elements. As SanHe measures lateral Qi, every single Branch has 5 elements, totalled 30 pairs. Therefore, each Branch controls 5 JiaZi 甲子, in 2 distinctive orders: -

1. Penetrating Mountain 穿山 – Dynamic Stem Arrangement
2. HongLuan 紅鸞 – Static Stem Arrangement

​HongLuan is the arrangement of stem in a static order. Each group of Yang stem shall be led by Jia甲, while the Yin stem shall be led by Yi乙, in a fixed order. In the arrangement of every controlling branches, after Jia is Yi, followed by Jia and Yi and repeat the same. In the 60 JiaZi arrangement, each and every opposite direction of the JiaZi will give you the same NaYin element. This is because only the branch differ but the stem remains the same - Heaven repeat Earth clashes 天伏地反. Location changes but Heaven is unmoved - it is used to measure Heaven Qi.

Penetrating Mountain, however, is takes the arrangement of stem in a dynamic “rotational” order. Each group of Yang stem shall be led by Jia甲 and subsequently rotate among itself. Same is to be said for Yin stem shall be led by Yi乙 and subsequently rotate among itself. in a dynamic order. In the arrangement of every controlling branches, after Jia is Yi, followed by Bing and Ding and repeat the same in a descending order. Penetrating Mountain 穿山 – In the 60 JiaZi arrangement, each and every opposite direction of the JiaZi will not give you the same NaYin element. This is because both the branch and the stem are in total opposite - 天地反吟. Location and Heaven move - it is used to measure Earth Qi.

In the modern LuoPan, these JiaZi are used in the following Rings: -

1. Penetrating Mountain 穿山 – 72D Penetrating Dragon  穿山龍, 60D Earth Penetrating 透地龍, 60D Expanding and Contracting Dragon 盈縮龍.
2. HongLuan 紅鸞 – 120D 百二龍, 64 DaGua Hexagram 64大卦.

WHAT IS HONGLUAN JIAZI 紅鸞甲子 ?

​What is HongLuan JiaZi 紅鸞甲子 or some may call HongLuan Water Method 紅鸞水法? Here is the explanation…

紅鸞水法，乃以紅鸞七十二龍五行為主，洪範五行為用，論其五親與吉凶。 何謂紅蠻七十二龍？即是二十四山各分為三而成七十二，與穿山七十二龍相同，但因穿山用錯排，紅變用順排，故七十二龍配合六十甲子之位置稍不相同。
 
穿山與紅鸞，兩者皆由壬山起甲子，然甲子、丙子、戊子、庚子、壬子五子，乙丑、丁丑、己丑、辛丑、癸丑五丑之後，天干之排法即不相同。
 
如圖一為穿山七十二龍，五寅之天干不由甲始，而由丙始，乃丙寅、成寅、庚寅、壬寅、甲寅五寅，五卯之天干不由乙始二 由于始，乃丁卯、己卯、辛卯、癸卯、乙卯五卯，五辰、五巳之天干再順椎一位，五辰由戊始、五已由已始，其餘類推，故謂之錯排。圖二為紅蠻七十二龍，其六十甲子之天干皆為甲丙戊庚壬、乙丁己辛癸之順序，故曰順排。紅鸞七十二龍專用以消水，用時須配合洪範五行以辨吉凶

HongLuan Water Method 紅鸞水法, is based on 72D 5 elements as the principle, HongFan 洪範 (HeTu) 5 elements as application. Discourse such 5 kinship to determine auspicious or inauspicious. What is this HongLuan 紅鸞 72D? Namely, 24 mountains each divide forming 72 subsectors. Very similar to 72D penetrating mountain 穿山. However, penetrating mountain use the wrong sequence, while HongLuan uses the forward sequence. This 72D matches 60 JiaZi positions differed from one another.

Penetrating Mountain 穿山 and HongLuan 紅鸞 both have Ren mountain 壬山 rise JiaZi 甲子, follow by 丙子、戊子、庚子、壬子, these 5 Zi 五子. 乙丑、丁丑、己丑、辛丑、癸丑, these 5 Chou 五丑. Thereafter Stems arrangement are entirely different.

One picture above shows 72D penetrating mountain 穿山. 5 Yin 五寅 this stem has no Jia 甲 to begin with but have Bing 丙 to begin thus 丙寅, 庚寅、壬寅、甲寅, these 5 Yin 五寅. 5 Mao 五卯 this stem has no Yi 乙 to begin with but 丁卯、己卯、辛卯、癸卯、乙卯, these 5 Mao 五卯. 5 Chen 五辰 and 5 Si 五巳 this stem are forward arrangement last position. 5 Chen 五辰 has Wu 戊 to begin with 5 Si 五巳 has Ji 己 to begin with. The rest will fall into position. This is a wrong sequence.

The other picture shows 72D HongLuan. This 60D JiaZi is stem all assigned to:

This sequence, so to speak forward arrangement. HongLuan 72D particularly used in assessing water 消水. In use must match HongFan 洪範 (HeTu) 5 elements to determine auspicious or inauspicious.

WHAT IS HONGLUAN JIAZI 紅鸞甲子 -  BASED ON 《古今圖書集成》

​作用以坐山消水，紅鸞用甲丙戊庚壬乙丁己辛癸順排，以納音為用。如：甲子乙丑海中金，丙寅丁卯爐中火，戊辰己巳大林木，……若干維無龍之處，即以其所屬之山洪範五行為用。以納音與砂水為吉，如土生金，金生水，金比旺為吉，剋我者如火剋金，如丙寅火見甲子金為凶，及合陽龍向陽龍，陰龍向陰龍為吉，犯駁為凶。而此紅鸞七十二龍與穿山七十二龍雷同。七十二龍者，一年十二月每月一辟卦管之，六爻乘十二，為七十二龍。另一解說，一年二十四節氣，分上中下三候，三乘二十四，為七十二。其主要作用穿山，用之以坐穴應地氣之用。

To be used in establishing seating judging water, HongLuan uses, 甲丙戊庚壬、乙丁己辛癸, forward arrange. With NaYin as its application. Such as; 甲子, 乙丑 as Metal from the Sea, 丙寅,丁卯 as Fire from the Stove, 戊辰,己巳 as Wood from the Forrest, 

... Stem has no Dragon (Qi) namely this HongFan WuXin (HeTu Element) as application. Use NaYin as embracing water as auspicious denomination such as: -
Earth produces Metal, Metal produces Water, Metal (with Metal) are Friends mutually Prosper as Auspicious, Clashes me such as Fire controls Metal, as 丙寅 <Fire>  meeting 甲子 <Metal> is inauspicious. 

With sitting Yang Dragon matching Facing Yang Dragon. Yin Dragon matching Facing Yin Dragon as Auspicious. Not conforming as Inauspicious. And this HongLuan 72D and Penetrating Mountain 72D are mirroring one another. 

72D junkies, 1 year has 12 months, each month is govern by one BiGua  辟卦 - 6 Yao forms the 12, as such 72D.  In other words, 1 year 24 JieQi, separate into Upper, Middle, Lower, 3 Hou. 3 times 24 begets 72 where it forms the basis for Penetrating Mountain. Use such to establish Xue obtaining Earth Qi such applied.

SO, WHAT IS THE ISSUE?

YangGong may have been the forefather of both SanHe and SanYuan. Within SanHe School itself, known as the gentlemen of GanZhou 赣州, there are 2 antagonistic methods. One called themselves as Old Method 古法 the other, the New Method 新法. 

Old Method 古法 do not need to define Mountain Method 山法 or Water Method 水法. Their approach is simple based on two 24 mountain rings. Besides the spot, everything else is measured using the Heaven Plate. New Method 新法 is complex as it also employs other later days grand-master's theories. This school is represented by Hu ShunShen 胡舜申 through his writing – Earth Principle New Methods 地理新法.

The Old Method 古法 School shuns Earth Principle New Methods 地理新法. as it is believed to have been lost. Only a hand copied version was known to have been kept in Korea. The pedigree of this copy is debatable as any FengShui manuscripts deported to alien states outside Imperial Tang are all fabricated false knowledge.

​Jiang JingChuan 江靜川, a contemporary practitioner of HongKong who follows the New Method lineage 新法, mooted this phrase that 72 Dragon is use as Penetrating Mountain, not use as water method. Use in water method is called HongLuan JiaZi. He further claimed that the late Li DingXin 李定信, the kingpin of Old Method 古法 did not understand FengShui.  The late Li DingXin 李定信 uses the 72D Penetrating Dragon  穿山龍 and screwed up one significant FengShui grave job big time. It is known as the YangGong Old Method 古法 watershed, a shame to all JiangXi practitioners. Detail read HERE.

Saying that  the late Li DingXin 李定信 doesn't know his stuff is very untrue, not at a theoretical level, as he was also the first who explained the meaning of 3-7, 7-3 gold division by interpolating 240D ring into what is probably known as the 120D 百二龍 that uses the HongLuan 紅鸞 order (Detail read HERE). 72D HongLuan 紅鸞 dragon is utterly rubbish...
